Re: PokerChrono Poker Tournament Timer
Ok...
Tested an incomming call while it was running and no problems kept right on grooving in the background. Only thing is if you're on a call at the time of warning beeps, you don't get the beeps but that is no big deal as you should be ignoring the calls during the game anyway You can wait for a break, make a call while it continues to run in the b/g, then come right back in so long as you are careful not to touch the screen and stop the timer. (but i still like the touch option 4tr) Last edited by Vancer; 11-18-2009 at 02:24 PM. |

Re: PokerChrono Poker Tournament Timer
Thanks for the feedback! I may spend some more time to get the touch start/stop to only occur on the time, but at this point I'll wait and see how others feel about it.
I think the next thing I'll work on is power management. It took a while to get the screen to stay on. It's easy to turn just the backlight off, but I know on some devices, that renders the screen unreadable. If I just let the phone manage the power, I think it may suspend the app entirely after a few minutes of power off. I also think it behaves differently when you hit the screen off button yourself vs letting it shut itself off. The emulator is a bit lacking when it comes to emulating power features. Anyhow, I'll see what I can put together to allow for configuring power settings. I do recommend you bring a power cord with you this weekend if I don't get the power stuff finished. Not all phones will make it a few hours with the screen on! |

Re: PokerChrono Poker Tournament Timer
I haven't had a chance to try the app yet, having phone issues at the moment. But I will get on it as soon as I can and get a response back to you!
Thanks again for your work on this! |

I can still just goto power settings and run the backlight down though while it's running, so I think I could probably get through a tourney. If you can't get the power thing figured out, you could just put it in the release notes to tell guys/gals to do this in order to get through a round. But I do have to say that if you could hit the power button and still have it run and beep in the background that would be a much better option

Re: PokerChrono Poker Tournament Timer
I'll be able to get it figured out. I consider it my highest priority at this point and I have some leads on how to do it. It will take a while though because it involves working with unmanaged code. Maybe I'll release a version tonight that turns off my "always on" feature so you can play with it and tell me how it behaves. With that one, it'll just use your power settings. So worst case is you would need to disable your system's auto-off feature while you're using the timer.
Again, it's my top priority. But I wanted to get something out to see if it was even worth digging further into the bundle of joy that is power management. |

Another thing of note, when i run the app, memory jumps by about 25-30% and remains so after i shut it down. Causes other phone features to be "laggy" until a soft reset. Very small potatoes at this point since (in my opinion) one should not be doing anything else other than playing poker while playing poker and a soft reset when done playing is no big deal, but thought you would want to know. Memory mgt is a low priority to me at this point. |

Re: PokerChrono Poker Tournament Timer
Thanks for that note. I'm pretty sure that has to do with the current solution I'm using to keep the screen on. When I post the new build tonight (probably around 10p EST), please let me know if you still see that. This thing definitely shouldn't be using that much memory At a minimum, I will bring memory close to original levels after closing.
I actually killed my original emulator while trying to play with the power settings last night. Luckily it only takes a few minutes to make a new one, but dealing with the power is a real pain I am 90% sure that if you let it go to sleep, it will not beep at the end of rounds. I'm not sure if it will stop counting down though. Also, can you tell me if the app is closed (not just minimized) when you're still seeing the extra memory usage?
