Barcode Software for Membership Cards?

I was thinking that it'd be really useful to have a program that could scan barcodes for like... membership cards/rewards cards/etc and then save them as clear image files so you wouldn't have to carry around all those cards.

Does anyone know of any programs out there that can already do this? I searched like crazy and couldn't really find anything.

I don't think it's possible to take a picture of the barcode (a least not with most camera phones). I have tried tried writing an similar app before and it would allways read the bar codes wrong becuase of the bad quality camera. Maybe in future phone models it will be possible, why I don't get is why don't the stores use the same cards. They dont have to share purchased info just the info you filled out when you sing up. That way one card for all...
