Re: Live TV?
Slingbox and Hava (sling's chief competitor) Both sort of work like cell phones only using the net.
The main unit hooks up to your cablebox or tv output and has little Infared transmitters that can control your home entertainment system.
Each unit has a unique ID from the manufacturer (think ESN#) that identifies the unit. It connects to your internet router (My Hava uses Wireless G to connect) and it posts IP info to the central server so when you go to that UnitID (You can set a friendly name for it, the server registers it, no signups involved!) it reports the proper IP address and you can connect remotely via a P2P connection.
This technology works great but I wouldn't try this (or any streaming video for that matter) unless you have unlimited Data plan!
you can control your cable box, Set DVR records, playback rthose recordings and pretty much anything you could do in front of the set at home.
For around $150 you can pretty much take your TV with you anywhere!
