Basically, test both (since they are both still free) and find what suits you best!

thanx for the feedback...

I have messed around with both, I found palringo much easier to setup and use.
octro added several contacts that it needed for server connections I guess to my buddy lists which I found annoying... as of right now I am still using palringo, the PTT feature is nice, but not somthing I plan on using a lot, and I don't need file transfer from octro on my 6700.

Palringo's functionality is better to me (octro crashes and fails to log-in every once in a while,) but the away message functionality is limited. There isn't a way to hide offline on Palringo either (at least not a way I know of).

For now i'll use OctroTalk.

Well, I've been using both, Octro seems to freeze my 6700 every now and then, very annoying.. Sure Octro has more IM featuers than Palringo.. But Palringo seems to be much more reliable, it connects everytime and it doesn't cause lockups, etc... I couldn't use Octra at all last night, would not connect, and when it did it kept telling me my password was wrong, this morning, working fine.. go figure...

Anyway, I'm going to be sticking with Palringo simply for the lockup issue, but to be honest, I like the IM features of Octro better ...

Yup, making the permanent switch to Palringo... I've had to reboot my phone about half a dozen times today, and all I've had on it is Octro... Octro is a great IM client, and I think has more features, etc... But if Palringo doesn't lock my phone as often, I'm gonna have to go with it ...
