9/5/09 - HTC WIFI Router Software (Newest Version Now in Comm Manager)

I have been using HTC Wifi Router on my Touch Pro 2 since January this year. I have the older version which does not put this in comm manager. It is a little buggy at times (randomly drops the connection at times, or wifi connection resets when phone charge light turns green..hmm weird), but I must say it gets the job done. Before I had this, I constantly tried to get the USB internet sharing to work... which I could not.

I am using this on a Win XP machine with a mini wifi dongle plugged in to USB. For all of you who are unable to get the phone to see the network on your computer.... or you can't get your PC to see the phones Wifi network, here is a very important note to follow. MAKE SURE that the Wifi network on your PC is Wireless G compatible. The phones wifi network type is Wireless g/b . So that means than you cannot use a network on your PC such as Wireless N... or one that is not backwords compatible with Wireless g. Because the networks will not SEE each other, or only one of them will see the other, which will prevent a successfull connection.

Here is my contribution to this thread.
I had some trouble with the other cabs listed, so I tore them apart.
I took some things for here and some from there, cleaned it up a little and made a simple version of this without so many bells and whistles.

There are no wizards in the start menu.
This will add the WiFi Router option to slot 7 in your Comm Manager.
It works just fine on my VZW TP2 with stock rom MR2

Ok I download the appl as a first step the information to the phone. Ok I connect my phone to the PC, then in that folder I put this file. I place complete with the folder you already have?

I have a Touch Pro 2 with US Cellular. I downloaded the link from EGOvoruhk above: HTC Wi-Fi Sharing.cab and installed it. I went to Start and the WIFI was there. I tried it the first time and my PC did not detect the network from my phone. I stopped it and started it again and my PC found it and connected perfectly. No registry hacks. No hassles. Thanx EGOvoruhk.

Same here using EGOvoruhk cab. Running Touch Diamond on Sprint (stock 6.1 ROM, most recent version downloaded from HTC site) on $40 F&C plan with unlimted data. I may never switch out my Diamond now.

NO! the reg changes are for USB tether/stealth... Stealth tethering is not for Wifi

I tryed it and could not install said did not has permission, how do I get arouond that on my stock rom verzion HTC tp2

how do you get this to install, All I get is the program shown on screen, it tries to go to and online source
