YouTube Pocket, All of YouTube, Streaming, in a PPC Format!

Hey Everyone!

I am working on a new script and wanted to get feedback.

YouTube Pocket:

Just point your Windows Mobile enabled PPC or Smartphone to:
ytpocket.ath.cx
and follow the 'Getting Started' instructions and you will be ready to watch any YouTube video, right on your phone!

(Sorry about the link format, the site wontlet me post links yet)

I have only tested this on a handfull of devices so i am really looking for some feedback. Please leave any comments, suggestions, or complaints here so i can try to address them.

Also, make sure to visit the Buffering / Syncing page on there with some tips.

-Anthony

Note: If you already have zbop's YouTube mod installed you will not need to install anything from 'Getting Started', you will only need to add 'MMS Protocol' under 'Settings -> File Associations' and you will be able to use the site flawlessly

Very nice site! Love the simplicity and lack of clutter. Good work

BTW, I made a post over at TC about some settings awhile ago. I find these work quite well over 3g:

(1) I use Teksoft's Speedbooster on TCMP: little safer/modest than OC'ing the device. Plus, you can tell it to give "higher priority" to just TCMP, instead of the system. Gives a little extra juice.

(2) I use Direct Draw for the driver, but Intel X-Scale seems ok too. Preference?

(3) Under settings, you can choose the pre-buffer. So I put mine at 15%. I also increased the Audio buffer to 400kb along with "Override AVI frame rate based on audio" (under "Advanced"). Doing this seems to keep the audio and video in check. Feedback from anyone else?

(4) Of course you can UPX the TCMP .dll files to make it all load slightly faster.

Thanks for the kind words! Glad you like it!

For people who do end up getting this working and like it please help me spread the word by digging my article for me! Once the site picks up I am going to make a portal with a few options including my hosted version of the gmail pocket ap (test can be found at gmobile.ath.cx)

digg link:
digg.co m / software / YouTube_Pocket_for_Windows_Mobile_Handhelds_Smartp hones

(just remove the spaces in the link, sorry about the format, still can't post links due to the spam filter)

I really appreciate the support!

-Anthony

edit: just noticing your edit:

I haven't tried the speed booster, I'll have to check it out. To fix the audio sync I just use a -400 Manual A/V offset. As for buffering, on sprint 3g I use:
Normal Buffer Rate: 1184KB
Preload at underrun: 3%
Preload for audio: 64KB
Microdrive mode: no

As for video driver, they all seemed fine to me, but I use GDI

The settings are in TCPMP. Open TCPMP (from your applications folder)

In TCPMP, click 'Options' then click 'Settings...'

From there click 'Select Page' and click 'File Associations'
Now check 'MMS Protocol' and 'Flash Video'

Now click 'Select Page' and click 'Player'
Check 'Play at open in fullscreen'

Now click 'Select Page' againa and click 'Advanced'
set Manual A/V offset +/- to '-400'

Click 'Select Page' one last time and click 'Buffering'
Set the following:
Normal Buffer Rate: 1184KB
Preload at underrun: 3%
Preload for audio: 64KB
Microdrive mode: no

Now select 'OK' in the bottom left corner, now you are done and ready to vrowse the site!

I really like it.. however...

Do I have to use the search all the time?

Do you have a link to top videos?

Haha, looks like the server load times are leading to tripple posts. I am actually adding support for Most Recent, Most Viewed, Top Rated, Most Discussed, Top Favorites, Most Linked and Recently Featured as we speak. Expect them working by tomorrow!
