[8/7] Gasmate - MPG Calculator *New! AUTOUpdate AND IMPORT!* **RELEASE CANDIDATE**

Update 8/7/09 RELEASE CANDIDATE .42b
This is just a quick bugfix for those of you with square screens. Ed Thompson found the bug where square screens were not displaying correctly. I had set anchors when I shouldn’t have, and it should now be fixed. In doing this, I also fixed the landscape(rotation) bug.

Cab: http://www.lulzsoft.com/installers/gasmate_rc.42b.CAB
.Net CF 3.5 http://www.lulzsoft.com/wordpress/20...et-cf-3-5-cab/
SQLCE: http://www.lulzsoft.com/wordpress/20...iles-for-ppcs/

=====================================
Update 7/25/09 RELEASE CANDIDATE .41b

This is a bugfix version with a few features added:
  • Decimal separator is now pulled from localization info
  • Dollar sign($) is also pulled from localization info
  • Last gas type used is remembered
  • Added an extra digit to gals and price
  • CAB file is now compressed to make it smaller, I will work on the EXE’s next
Grab it here: http://www.lulzsoft.com/installers/gasmate_rc.41b.CAB

=================================================
Update 7/15/09 RELEASE CANDIDATE .40c

Its been a little while since I have done a significant update. I managed to fix the maintenance bug (I hope) for real this time. You will also notice that you *should* be able to use just your fingers to enter in new readings. I have the ODO reading automatically brought into the numbers but not the others, since they will go up and down with time. I could change this later on. Check the screenshots below......

You will need to have followed the upgrade instructions for .26 already to make the DB change. As always, .Net 3.5 and SQLCE are required.

================================================== ===============
Update 7/9/09
Been a little distracted with work and digital photography......but here is a bugfix!

I wanted to release something more "done" as an RC, but this will work too. I needed to fix a bug in the maintenance table but you guys also have a treat.......a new tapping method to enter the ODO reading for the MPG. It will remember the last entry you entered to make it easier. YOU MUST HAVE .26B BEFORE UPGRADING TO THIS VERSION. Basically, you need to have done the database change instructions from before. Doing them again here will also work.

===============================

Update 6/25/09
PLEASE NOTE – THERE ARE SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR UPDATING!!!!!!!

For those of you who have an old version(not this one) of GasMate you must follow the instructions in order to upgrade to the new version. I have made a change to the database(added cost in maintenance table) and therefore you must export the data and re-import it.
  1. Export your current data that is in GasMate.
  2. Open the CSV file in a text editor(openoffice/excel break it by adding/removing quotes) and make the following change:
    Change: M,”234″,”Oil Change”,”2009-06-25 21:32:57″,”notes”
    To: M,”234″,”Oil Change”,”2009-06-25 21:32:57″,”COST”,”Notes”
    where cost must be a number
    PLEASE NOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    I have used quotes for the data to make sure nothing bad happens. The quotes are ONLY on the data, and not on the headers. Adding or changing the quote format WILL break stuff.
  3. Go to the directory where GasMate is installed(Program Files/GasMate) and delete the file GASMATE.SDF (database).
  4. Download the new cab
  5. Install the new cab
  6. Import the old data(modified csv) into GasMate
If you do not wish to keep your data, you can just delete the sdf file then install the new version.
If you do not have GasMate installed, you do not need to worry about this.
As always, .NET CF3.5 and SQLCE are required.
-Daniel

======================
Update 6/21/09 - GasMate .25c
Ok everyone…..import is working! However, I have changed the format slightly to make this easier to parse, so exports must be done from this version or higher to be re-imported. They will NOT overwrite current entries, but if there is a match a message will come up and it will not be entered. The format for the CSV is as follows:
======
Export from GasMate Beta .25b
,Date,ODO,Gallons,Price/Gal,Fuel Type,Total Cost,MPG,Gal/100mi
G,”2009-06-21 12:43:53″,”2345234″,”23″,”23″,”Premium(91) ”,”529″,”First”,”First”

,ODO,Work Done,Date,Notes,
M,”23423″,”Oil Change”,”2009-06-21 12:43:53″,”notes lulz”
==========
The G and M in front tell the program that it is a gas or maint row. The last two values in the gas table are NOT necessary in that the program calculates them when it runs, so if you are importing from other data you do not need to worry about them.
Other notes:
  • Changed Date format to yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss (fixes bugs when people override date in NLS)*cough*shaggylive*cough*
  • Added warning before nuking full table
Cab: http://www.lulzsoft.com/installers/gasmate_b.25c.CAB

Please let me know how it works out!

Re: MPG Calculator

cab download link is broken. Is this just a MPG calculator or will it keep track of it for monthly milage logs and such?

Re: MPG Calculator

if you build it they will come... ha. no seriously i've seen some attempts at this app, but all seem to fall short, and the dev gets distracted, hopefully this will keep your interest long enough for it to be good

Re: MPG Calculator

Yeah im using VS2k8 and so yeah the cab.....sucks.....

How were you getting the bug? I thought I had pretty much tested it out..

What other stuff are you looking for?

Also the download might have been....borked when I tried to set up some different redirection and stuff.....let me know

This summer I am basically just trying to build up some sort of portfolio so when I graduate I have something to show...our school sucks and really doesn't have us do anything past the theory.

Edit: Ok I saw what you did there to the cab....definitely will need to check this out

Re: MPG Calculator

first i'll address the bug. are you using sqlce 3.5? I'm pretty sure the rom i have came with 3.0 but I've since installed the latest 3.5. that's my best guess.

I enter 1 sample fill up. I get the same results before/after app exit & before/after reset. the next fill up gives "Error - Please enter a new mileage" click ok, then " - FormatExeption" .

glad you asked.
I think I may as well make a list. I went looking for a screen shot of something close, but couldn't find it.
1. obviously the interface.
a. I think the starting tab mpg info could be condensed and displayed with new entry tab, to make it easier. (actually maybe a tab per vehicle, other functions in a menu)
b. look at past info and guess the milage based on # gallons, quick adjustments for accuracy (arrows or 100/25/5/1 increment buttons) or just show the last info so you don't need keyboard/sip
2. fuel type & price fields (also remember previous)
3. ultimately it would be great to track air filter and oil change, with a reminder when it needs changed.
4. obviously some sort of export to csv/excel/ect... (import too I guess if ppl want to make changes or merge previous logs)

anyway, I don't want to overwelm you, but like I said I have yet to see an app like this fully mature. best of luck!

Re: MPG Calculator

What are your inputs each time? I put in some stuff so that it shouldn't let you see those error messages......shouldn't being the keyword I guess.

For instance, you cant enter data that is "older" than the most recent one.

Oh also yes SqlCe3.5

Re: MPG Calculator

Version .02!

I have made some slight tweaks to the UI along with adding a maintenance tab which I will have to work on tonight. I need a new table in the DB so this might take a little time to get to work. The tweaks to the UI should help make it work better on SQUARE screened devices.

Unfortunately I think that because I made some changes to the CAB, it will not uninstall the older version. If you wish to keep your data, you must copy the SDF file out of the directory, uninstall, reinstall .02, then copy the SDF back in.

Re: MPG Calculator

i will be watching this develope! im excited. from a user's (id love to program but need to go to school for that) perspective this is what id really love to see in it.

gas mileage, money spent on gas in a months time, oil change alert, air filter change/clean or for me Recharge as i have a k&n cold air intake. and tire rotation alert.
what would be nice is for you to be able to set the interval of the oil change, air filter change and the tire rotation alerts. for instance.... i have a mustang and i like to change the oil and tired every 3,000 miles and clean the intake ever 10,000; however my dad does his oil ever 7,500 and his tires ever 5,000 so it would be awesome to be able to customize that.

but im not picky im just throwing out suggestions. id be happy with. just the gas mileage lol haha...

good luck to ya man

Re: MPG Calculator

Ok before I eat I figured I would post an update.....

Added Price/gal, type to ODO reading to calculate total.

Maintenance is not implemented but is there anything else I need to add?
