Re: SportyPal - GPS tracking application

Yeah it can be a biatch to put in the background at times, it definitely needs some tweaks....i am more interested in having accurate data as I only throw my TP on my camel pack and run....today it had me run 2.6 miles opposed to the actual 6 I did. Hopefully the Sporty guy comes back..

Since I'm not alone I decided to ask Sportypal about directly through their Support link.

Edit: That was quick! Sportypal replied:

SportyPal for Windows Mobile wasn't designed to run in the background, which is an oversight that we're working on correcting. One of the future updates will feature a dedicated minimize button, as well as a dedicated exit button. We'll notify you as soon as that update is released.

SportyPal can't match RunGPS which is much more full featured. However, SportyPal is much younger and is FREE, with online logging support too! I have both installed at the moment. For now I'm using SportyPal for bike rides which I only care about logging/mapping. For runs I use RunGPS because I like the voice output so I don't have to look at my screen.

I have both installed, they are two different beasts I understand. I just hope Sporty gets accurate, and I need to get used to Rungps..

Re: SportyPal - GPS tracking application

Yeah, RunGPS is overwhelming at first. Gotta play with it a bit before you are comfortable with it. I think this is why SportyPal is enticing to me. Sometimes you just want something clean and simple that gets the job done.

My work around for this on my mogul is to use the start menu shortcut button which opens up quick menu which I then can use to open up whatever program I need. Then when i'm done I just open up sportypal again to continue using it as it is still running in the background. I guess on other phones if you can assign a button to your start menu, you can do the same thing.

TP has a dedicated home button, my only gripe with Sporty is accuracy. I can get around putting it in the background and teh uploads are flawless...i just dont run on water

As far as the GPS data, mine for the most part has been pretty accurate I think so far, at least when it is working right. Out of the 3 trips i've used it for so far one leg of the trip has always messed up and it seems the signal was lost for a period of time and it creates a B line from the last known point to the end of the trip or where it picks up the signal again.

The weird part is that it somehow is still gathering the correct mileage total. But upon uploading my mileage is short somehow.

I'm gonna keep using it and see if it becomes more consistent. It has potential if they work out all the quirks in future releases hopefully.
