Re: [APP]Battery Recalibration- Mobile Battery Discharger=Better battery life!!!!

but I ask you what's the point of wearing out the top half and never touching the bottom... so after a few months or a year you only have 1/2 compacity..... I think not.

I prefer just actually using my phone until dead (0%)[/QUOTE]

Im not quite sure what you mean by that, but the point of this thread was to use this app as a way to really drain your battery to 0. Just letting your phone die is not actually draining your battery to 0. More like 10%. The phone usually shuts down before that. Unless you have a battery tweak that lets the phone stay on longer with limited battery.

that is a good point, this app is more for those who are too scared to run no2's hacks.

the point of wearing off the top half is because that is the natural way of using batteries. im not gonna go out with a half charged phone. i think lion is smart enough that we dont need to mess with its program.

Re: [APP]Battery Recalibration- Mobile Battery Discharger=Better battery life!!!!

I don't think you guys are understanding what this application does. It does not exercise the cells in the battery to keep them at optimum health.

Lets start out by saying that modern lithium batteries have a built in micro controller that controls how the cells charge and monitors their discharge as well. The micro controller reports the health or capacity of the battery to the phone. Which in tern shows us the percentage of battery left based on the current charge level compared to maximum.

Well as lithium batteries get older like all rechargeables this maximum becomes lower. However the controller does not compensate for the difference and reports the original maximum to the phone. This is why we sometimes see 90% when we take it right off the charger.

Now the recalibration runs the cells till the controller goes into emergency shut off to protect the cell voltage from dropping to low. This takes the power off the controller and resets it. When you power it back up by charging it the controller will now "relearn" the battery. This is why it is important in this process not to remove the phone from the charger until it is completely full.

The controller has now learned the new maximum charge level for the phone and now reports it correctly.
