Firefox Mobile (Fennec) based on Firefox 3.5

Here is the latest memory leak hack (patch,band-aid) applied to the Alpha they released for Windows Mobile. With the patched version, I can at least see a few web pages before it crashes, where before I would just get the dreaded checkerboard screen. Still a ways off from being good, but it's a step in the right direction, no?

thanks...do i need the original cab for the patch to work or is this all i need??

This is all that is needed. It has the full install with the patch built in.

thx for the heads up...i didnt DL the file, but its good to cee that they are advancing with the SW....cant wait for release, hopefully i wud be able to dump opera and skyf..if Fennec is a good mix of both browsers.(full flash support + nice look and easy to use like opera)

You know what else it's going to have? Geode. Geode does WiFi triangulation location for PCs with no GPS component. FireFox 3.5 has Geode within the framework, which means you won't have to use the Geode addon.

If FF 3.5 makes it to the mobile framework, it'll have Geode coded in. Rejoice, lowly smartphones with no GPS, rejoice!

Here is the latest Alpha release for WinMo, released May 3, 2009(TODAY).


Seems to be more responsive and a little cleaner looking, my opinion so far.
Off to see what else seems different or better. Still very slow to open when initially loading up the app.

**EDIT**
There are now a few Add-Ons found and recommended through the settings in the browser. Also some quirky explanations under each of the content setting tabs. Example: "Enable Plugins: Makes websites annoying". It Hasn't crashed on me yet like the last release either. Small steps in the right direction!

I am also anxiously awaiting Opera Mobile 9.7, however I thought since this thread was about Fennec, I would post the latest Alpha release for those who are interested in the progress of Fennec. Especially since this release is so new and hadn't seen it posted anywhere. Not quite sure why their numbering scheme seems to be backwards, but it is newer.

Yeah, no problem man. I thought someone out there would appreciate the updated Alpha. I have also attached a screenshot of my Acid3Test results with the latest Alpha, not bad.
