Having the backup feature made it a breeze to install the new version.

tripwise 07-29-2007 10:49 AM

Thanks for putting this togeter, emnutz. I used v0.4 along with the transparent icons that strohs linked to (put them in the custom directory) and have had zero issues so far.

I'll be trying out v0.5 later today to see how the background changes work and look. If I have any issues, I'll post feedback. If you see nothing from me, assume all went well.

eb3604 07-29-2007 12:43 PM

the change tab order does not work for me. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. v.5 is the first version I've installed on my mogul. other than that it works great!

You're right. It looks like the modified plugin I used in this version doesn't support the Tabsetting key. I'll work on patching the old cab I was using with N2A's weather fix right now. If I can't, I'll have to disable the Tab Order option for now until he releases a patched version of the A La Carte plugin, as the weather options are more helpful to people than setting the tab order.

EDIT: The 5-tab version he released works with the Tabsetting. v0.5a is up with the correct cab.

The htchome.dll in the new version is hard coded for a different weather URL than the previous htchome.dll. The A La Cart htchome.dll was hard coded to allow the tab order changes. Therefore, the dll will need to be patched to allow both features. I tried doing it myself as I found where the tab order entry was located (I think), but the dll did not work afterwards.

I like the new color for the icons, the color-dkaye. also, I like the added transparent icons. Good work. Changing the order of the icons isn't a big deal to me. their fine the way they are now.

dawilliams660 07-29-2007 02:59 PM

Good work on this, but it seems to be not working on mine, i think i'll go back to the way I had it....But great Job

dwehking 07-29-2007 03:12 PM

With ver .5 installed, how often is the local weather supposed to update?
I have it set to auto update but it never does. I have to manually update all the time.

Could you detail the problem(s) you encountered?

stroths & 1999TL: I have been testing for the past hour or so and the 5-Tab cab from N2A's post on XDA that I included v0.5a does work with both the weather and tabsetting (and the 6th tab).

dawilliams660 07-29-2007 04:20 PM

I put your file on my SD card and unziped it then I ran your homecust i picked custom for all i followed your instructions, i restarted my Mogul and I get a blank HTC Home, I tried reseting it again and now there's no HTC Home....I will do it one more time but it seem not to work on mine.

Also I uninstalled all of the pluggins too (HTC Home)

All of the "Custom" folders are empty by default. They are there for you to drop your own images into if you don't like the ones I have included. The current images are NOT removed, so even if the folder is empty, the worst that happens is you have no changes.

As far as the blank HTC home screen, the only reason that would happen is if the "Tab Order" option was set incorrectly (happened to me while testing). The format should be (with commas):

1,2,3,4,5,6

In any order or combination you wish. ( ex. 1,3,2,5 or 6,5,4,3,2,1 )

I did find a couple problems with the weather functions, so I'll be doing an update shortly. I'll also populate the Tabsetting reg key, since the cab doesn't and you'll need an existing one to edit that setting and without looking at the readme.

yeah the new version allows for tab ordering and the weather works as well for me.

dawilliams660 07-29-2007 04:55 PM

Thanks Emunutz, I will give that a try

msisaac 07-29-2007 04:59 PM

The commas in the tab order are the problem. I put my tab order down as "143256". I was getting the same blank Home plugin as dawilliams660. Once I read emunutz's post with the commas, I put them in "1,4,3,2,5,6" and the Home plugin popped up without any problems.

This is a great customizer, but it would be awesome if you could parse the tab order text for commas, or simply change the text instructions at the top of the Tab Order menu to show the correct format, including commas!

Anyway, seems to be working now. Thanks for the easy setup, emunutz!

dawilliams660 07-29-2007 05:17 PM

Emunutz,

Were is the custom folder I want to use that

emunutz 07-29-2007 05:38 PM

msissac, I'll try to improve the tab order entry for v0.6

There is a "Custom" folder is in each of the bg, clock, icons and weather folders. You can drop any images into any of those folders, they don't have to be part of that set (clock images can go in bg, bg can go in weather, all images can go in any of these). Since HTC didn't implement a "theme" function, I'm trying to build in that functionality with this folder breakdown. Having said that, the program just takes whatever png files are in those the separate folders and copies them to the \HTCHome folder, there is no checking for filenames (yet). As I develop this and get more artwork, I'll be putting in those checks, along with a full "Themes" option with it's own Custom option. The appearance menu is the first step toward that. Wow, that was long winded. For now:

To use a custom "theme"
1. Drop all of the files for your theme into any of the following folders:
<HHC path>\FILES\bg\Custom
<HHC path>\FILES\clock\Custom
<HHC path>\FILES\icons\Custom
<HHC path>\FILES\weather\Custom

2. Run HHC and select Appearance->(folder from above)->Custom.

3. Exit HHC and your custom theme should be applied.

-OR-

You can drop your images into <HHC path>\FILES\backup\theme and do a Restore Appearance.

Well done! I am truly impressed with all of the work you guys do and how you freely share it with the ppc community. Can anybody tell me where I can get the transparent icons?

Nevermind. I think I got it. I just set the background to fully transparent. My Today screen now looks marvelous!

jinkle 07-29-2007 07:14 PM

Can someone post a zip of all the images from the colour version?

viperboy 07-29-2007 09:08 PM

can someone help me with the full transparent icons? i just tried to do it and made my whole htc plugin invisible

launcher tab issue

emunutz, this is such a fantastic must have for this device.... I love it more so then SPB Mobile Shell!

I do have one issue though...no matter which icon set I use...if I choose the Launcher tab... I am unable to add new item by clicking the plus sign...I know in the prev. version I used (ver4) it worked fine... prior to me having this problem I had clicked the programs icon(one of the default ones) in the launcher tab in ver5 and it did nothing so I deleted hoping to re-add it back in thinking it would fix it..but then thats where I started having the problem with the Launcher tab in general to add items..... the other default items in the Launcher tab are working ok (comm manager/screen brightness/screen rotate and lock device)

any advice is greatly appreciated!

and keep up the awesome work!

eb3604 07-30-2007 12:02 AM

hey emunutz, just found another little error.
under weather icons, code is
Code:

    XCopy ( wthpath & "\Original\*.png", "\HTCHome", 1 )
                        PlaySound ( "\Windows\Alarm2.wav" )
Message ( "Original clock installed." , "Files Copied" )

message should be "Original weather icons installed."

no biggie though. keep up the work!

Thanks for the kind words. Just remember, I didn't create the plugin, just the customization app.

As far as your problem, I cannot recreate it. Even deleting the reg keys for the launcher, it automatically recreated them when I added a program. The only thing I can think of is that you deleted all the programs and didn't press the "X" button again to bring the "+" icons back. Try pressing the delete button (bottom right) on the launcher tab and let me know if that works.

If not, I suggest you try the following:

1. Uninstall the Home Plugin through the Remove Programs menu.
2. Use a registry editor (PHM RegEdit work great) and delete the [HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\HTCHome] key.
3. Perform a soft reset.
4. Reinstall the Home Plugin from the menu and try again.

Thanks for pointing that out. I've been adding stuff so quickly, some things get overlooked!

Please refer to the first post under the ATTENTION section. I have added info about your issue and how to fix it.

jtbndy 07-30-2007 04:01 PM

Probably a simple question...

How does one change the general theme color? I'm looking to change it from the Windows default bluish color to black.

Any program links that will do that or registry edits?

emunutz 07-30-2007 10:34 PM

OK, I've got the dynamic menus running and a wizard for the tab selection, so v0.6 is coming close. Now all I need is some input. I'm implementing the "Themes" feature I was talking about before, and I want opinions about it. What I'm going to do is keep the Appearance option, to select certain sets if you wish, but you will also be able to save all the separate Appearance settings as a custom theme. Was I clear about that? I hope so. Right now, the breakdown for the theme/appearance:

Background
Clock
Icons
Weather Icons

Now, this makes it easier to configure your theme (only 4 options), however most of the icons sets I've only have certain subsets of icons (like only tab and launcher icons). I'm thinking about breaking the "Icons" down into more specific parts. I'm also looking into separating the bezel from the background folder, as I have seen a couple custom bezels. The breakdown I'm thinking about is:

Background
Bezel (Box borders and selection highlight)
Clock
Launcher Icons
Other Icons (profile, music)
Tab Icons
Weather Icons

What would YOU like to see?

Is there any chance you can make this app for wm5 also. I tried to use it on the apache and it didnt work. 6 tab homeplug now works on wm5. You can check the link below for more info. This is not a demand, just asking if it is possible. Feel free to click on chat to speak to colonel, superevilllama, or me. Thank you.

I'm sure I could, but that will have to wait until v0.7 as I got rid of my Apache and I'll need to grab one from my office ( I love being the IT guy :D ). I was reading that the weather fix is in that cab also, so that stuff should still work when I get it going.

Right now, you can't. All of the "Appearance" attributes are sets of png files. So the only way to have an alternate clock font color would be to find a set or modify the ones with the package. There is one black set that I know of here. It's a hollow font, so it should look sweet against your white background.

Extract the files in the zip to <HHC path>\FILES\clock\Custom. Then run my program and select Appearance->Clock->Custom. Exit the program and the new clock should be installed. (I will be including the Puma fonts from the link in the next version, hopefully tonight!)

Just FYI i've been using this on my 6700 since v0.5 and everything works great with the 6 tab from the kaiser, to use icons and such with the 3 tab just had to copy files to windows and they worked. Thanks for this great app.

Zekeman 07-31-2007 10:15 AM

Great App!! Works flawless, offtopic question what is the plugin called that shows the battery/free space etc displayed on the first post on the bottom?

I am trying to use v0.6 and am getting an invalid command on the install. Looks related to the theme iniwrite Theme Original is what I recall it saying on the screen.

This is a wonderful project. Thank you emunutz!

Before I use this to install these HTC Plugins, can someone confirm whether or not an X-Button fix is included in the these HTC Plugins or whether we need to install our favorite utility program for X Button functionality after installing the Plugins?

Thank you for the assistance and for "putting the cookies on the bottom shelf" with this project.
