Quick question for installing. I have an older version currently installed. .5b. Do I need to uninstalled everything first, or simply install this on top.

bmtbandit 07-31-2007 01:04 PM

To use this on WM5 is simple, do a search and replace in homecust.mscr. Replace "\HTCHome" with "Windows". Works great. The only difference between the two(as far as themes go) is the install location.

Thank u much sir, You were absolutely correct and it makes sense. To make the 6 tab home work for apache, its directory was changed to \windows, whereas mogul users are installing this as a cab right now and that location is \HTChome. I have made the change and it works flawlessly, thanks again.

For anybody that wants this, I have attached a zip of the changed file. extract and replace in your HTC Home Customizer. You will be replacing the homecust.mscr

I cannot reproduce this error. Could you outline (in detail) the steps you are taking to install the app (from download to running the customizer)?

stroths 07-31-2007 03:02 PM

That makes sense on the Apache. The \Windows directory is the default directory for the htc home plugin. However, the htchome.dll was hacked to move most of the files to the \htchome directory instead.

colonel 07-31-2007 03:30 PM

stroths, you are correct. However, the dlls were rehacked to allow for install from OEM.

MTXR 07-31-2007 05:32 PM

what does it mean by "lock" the today screen? I turned the lock on but i don't see anything different.

Also how do you modify the taskbar and such? I don't want calander on the bottom left of the screen... and how do you get those battery options?

I am a total newb to pocket PC, this is my first phone/pocketpc device.

Thansk for the help

wlriv 07-31-2007 05:43 PM

pardon the total noob question, this is my first attempt at loading anything on to the mogul.

i have unzipped and loaded all files onto my storage card. from there, i go through file explorer and start the file ' homecust.exe' and it takes me through all of the various things you can change.

after each adjustment, it says something like 'this has been changed' and i hit ok - so it takes me back to the menu with other options.

when i exit the program to view the changes, it says something like 'this will take a minute, press ok to exit'. so i hit ok, and nothing happens. fast forward 5 minutes later, still nothing.

i go through the same procedure as before thinking i shouldnt have hit 'ok' to exit, and let my phone just sit and (hopefully) cycle through and let the changes take hold. no change at all.

any thoughts?

colonel 07-31-2007 05:53 PM

Here is a thought and suggest that I had. I see this project taking off and everyone wanting to add their own icons, clocks, etc. Unfortunately, that means the app is going to keep growing in size. One thought I had was having the app use Total Commander to access the ftp and then it could just download needed files. Then you would not need to take up space with endless graphic files. Just an idea.

eb3604 07-31-2007 05:55 PM

that's great colonel. now that there is on the fly options, a person could just delete the folders not needed too.

emunutz 07-31-2007 07:06 PM

EDIT: Applies to version 0.6a and below

OK, it seems that we are getting more and more people having issues and I think I know why. You MUST be running WM6 AND use the CAB from the package in order for all of the options to work "out of the box." As stated previously, there are several different versions of this plugin out there, and that makes it difficult to figure out if it's a problem with my app or with the device/plugin you are using.

For WM5 users, there are a couple options if you don't want to wait for the next version. Please refer to the prior posts by bmtbandit and naigaboy. They explain why it doesn't work and what you need to do to make it work.

To help me (or anyone that may have the knowledge to help) troubleshoot/debug, please include the device you are using, Windows Mobile version you are running and which HTC Home Plugin you are trying to use it with.

BTW, I would really appreciate feedback on the current feature set and options. If you have a suggestion to improve it, do not hesitate to post it.

Working well for me

Personally I love what you've done with it. I've gotten pictures just to set picture contacts, and I'm using the media screen while I'm sitting here at work. The weather on the homepage is awesome, although I'm saddened it doesn't have radar, but that I can do without for the functionality of what you've helped to provide us with. I cannot get the colors to work, I'm on a Mogul running WM6, but I'm hoping to work that out myself, it's probably user error, haha. But really, thanks a bunch for working so much on this! I've got v5 and I'm awaiting v6, although I don't see too much else to add! User customization goes as deep as I need it to without it getting confusing.

im not sure if that is in response to my post, but i have NOTHING else installed. your prog was the first one i attempted. i have since, sucessfully, installed a MMS picture messenger, but thats it. is there something else that is required to make your prog work? again, pardon my noobness. (edit - mogul is running WM6)

Gadgetman7 07-31-2007 07:41 PM

htc plugin

How do I customize the ring profile?

emunutz 07-31-2007 08:06 PM

wlriv, after you get into the program, did you run the "Install Plugin" option? That's the only reason I can think of why it's not working for you.

exoticalex 07-31-2007 11:10 PM

I have had a problem with the weather tab. Everytime I go to the weather tab, it has to download the data. Shouldnt this update itself in the background, that way I dont have to wait 10 seconds for the weather to display?

exoticalex 07-31-2007 11:37 PM

I installed version 6, and now I am only showing 5 tabs. I checked the tab order, and it shows 6 tabs. Why am I not getting 6 tabs on the home screen? I am running one of the themes that came with the pack. Scheps or something like that.

You need to set it to 6 tabs. I found that bug today actually, where the tab wizard will display 6 no matter how many you have enabled. The tab wizard does work otherwise. I will fix this in my next minor update, possibly tonight, maybe tomorrow.

EDIT: v0.6a patch is up, fixes tab number issue.

About the weather, I haven't found a way to alter the way it downloads the information. I'll look into it though.

assign a picture to your contact in the contact manager that comes on the phone. then when you add the contact to the tab the picture shows.

darktiger 08-01-2007 11:43 AM

Do I have to update this if I am running v6? Is there any big changes(performance wise)?

No, just a couple bugfixes and an install check at the beginning. It's not required if v0.6 is working for you.

exoticalex 08-01-2007 12:40 PM

YOU ROCK! I just wanted to stop by and thank you for all your support on this wonderful app. THANKS BUDDY!

armorforsleep 08-01-2007 06:02 PM

So wait, do you run this after you've installed a 5 or 6 tab version from say Juv at XDA, or do I uninstall that one and run this...thanks.

Uninstall your version and install the version included with this package.

MTXR 08-01-2007 08:19 PM

Thank you Stroths!

agreed - also has anyone else noticed that when they slide the device open and then shut, that sometimes the plug in doesn't resize, or center. I've lost one or two tabs sometimes when sliding back. Also the clock sometimes doesn't center when this condition exists.

The one that was in the package should not have been there. It was a file I was playing with and forgot to take out :D The one that works on my Mogul is attached below.

Just an FYI to people that the dll doesn't really need to be hexedited to make the weather change. This reg entry will make a static host mapping:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Tcpip\Hosts\htc.accuweathe r.com]
"ipaddr"=hex:40,3e,9e,6c

Basically, that entry is all "Pocket Hosts" does when you use that method. Considering this entry can be automatically added by the cab, and easily edited later (say if the server they are currently reidrectlng to goes down or changes hosts) it seems like that would be a much better method. With a hexedited dll future edits become a lot harder.

emunutz you could also add that reg entry to the customizer app as well--and as server changes are needed could apply the corrected entry via updated versions of the customizer. Just a thought.

I posted this in the software forum as well but thought I should spread the word.

LotekJunky 08-03-2007 01:16 PM

First of all, thank you so much for scripting this, its great!

I'm having an annoying problem that I hope someone will know how to fix. I read this whole thread but wasn't able to see anyone else with this issue.

When I have a new email, the email notifier icon will display a "1" or a "2", but when I click on the icon, it takes me to my poutlook "MMS" inbox instead of my poutlook "Outlook" inbox. I have to hit the dropdown arrow at the top of poutlook and find the correct folder.

I tried poking through the registry to see if I could change this, but I wasnt able to find anything that stood out.

Anyone have a fix for this? btw, I'm using the PPC Geeks MMS patch for the 700wx and it works flawlessly for sending MMS messages.

Thanks,
nick

eb3604 08-03-2007 01:23 PM

its been mentioned i think here but definately on pdaphonehome's forum. Add another email. you could even add a false one, and set the option to manual check. adding another mailbox will bring up the select mail screen

stylz3 08-03-2007 01:39 PM

i dont quit follow how to do the reg edit in this one. I think I will wait for the cab when its available

Vertigo 08-03-2007 02:19 PM

is there any way to change the color on the sprint name and date... mine is grey and with the background I'm using can barely see it.

Guys I have Emunutz .06a working in it's full capacity on my phone.

Download the file below and replace your existing .mscr in your folder.

Emunutz we need to work on a program to automatically install new themes for this Home Plugin.

This program is great!

I appreciate the work you did for the WM5 crowd kyppcgeek. Last night I was playing around with an Apache and I'm 99% sure I've got everything set so almost any 6-tab Home plugin install (WM5 & WM6) will be able to use all of the features of the customizer. colonel brought up the fact that there will be an easier cab for WM5 soon, which is why I'm holding off the next release until then.

What are you referring to as far as automatic themes? I've been thinking about trying to get a dedicated host for the appearance/theme packages and linking the file list from the host to the customizer, if that's what your referring to. In the meantime, I'll probably separate the artwork from the main package for the next release.

i am getting the same error. i copied the exe file over to the windows folders like u did but i didnt see and .lnk file..

then i reinstalled but it still doesnt work. any suggestions?

kyppcgeek 08-03-2007 03:53 PM

Emunutz all I did was change the HTCHOME in the .png from \HTCHOME to \Windows. All the rest I left alone. I have thuroughly tested all except the re-install part and works 100%.

the automatic themes part you are on the right track.

I was thinking have the prog pull from a themes folder and then each theme under it's own folder and sub folders. We would have to mess with this a little to get the wm5 program to work. I think it would work though if the program just copied the theme folder images to the main \windows directory where the home plugin pulls from.
