Re: GrandCentral = Google Voice. Includes SMS!

For those concerned about voicemail transcriptions I think they already know it's not going to be great to start off with. It also says you can choose to have the transcriptions.
Quote:
1. Transcriptions: Now, in addition to being able to listen to your voicemail messages, you can choose to have your new voicemails automatically transcribed. You'll see these transcriptions in your inbox and will be able to search for voicemails. Transcriptions are also included in email and SMS notifications. They are fully automated, so they aren't perfect, but we'll be working to improve this in the future.
This is the one I'm excited about and hoping it works! I am curious to see if when you reply it uses your GC phone number or the number from the cell phone you replied from...

Quote:
2. SMS support: When somebody sends an SMS to your Google Voice number, that SMS will be relayed to each of your forwarding cell phones and stored in your inbox. You can reply from your computer or from any of your mobile phones and the conversation will be saved in your inbox. You'll be able to read through the conversation thread and search for past messages.
And yes, at this time they are still listing this as a free service, with the exception of international calling.

I'm sure it'll remain free, Google tends to make their products free of charge, and will probably incorporate their ads into it somehow to make money.

Re: Google Voice includes SMS! (The old GrandCentral)

This does sound great. My account has yet to be upgraded, but I'm sure it will be soon.

I'm looking forward to seeing if this can be used as a replacement to forwarding my Verizon Touch Pro to youmail.com

EDIT: On second thought, I don't see anyway to use it as a voice mail service only. If I forward my cell to it, it wants to ring another phone. I don't see anywhere that I can just say take a message instead of calling out. Maybe the do not disturb option?

Re: Google Voice includes SMS! (The old GrandCentral)

Where the op said free is taken directly from google and is talking about the new service not gc, so free it be.

I am amped for this though. I never got in on gc and have forever been regretful about it.

Also here is a link to the signup https://services.google.com/fb/forms/googlevoiceinvite/.

They say if you already signed up for an invite from gc you should be fine but I sent one anyway.
