YouTube Streaming Mobile: Part II (7/14/07)

Okay folks, here is another method to stream Youtube (if you're really into that kinda thing, personally...I ain't... )

This uses TCPMP 0.81 (or the older 0.7x series) and will stream via the real YouTube site, as opposed to the "mobile".

It's also a bit more simple, has better quality, more available videos.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(1) Download THIS FILE

(2) Install TCPMP (if you don't already have it)

(3) Copy the codec files (AAC is optional) to the \Player directory

(4) Change your TCPMP settings (Options, Settings, Buffering, Preload at underrun to 5%). I found 10% is fine too.

(5) Make sure under Options->Settings->File Associations that the box next to "M3U" is checked

(6) Go to http://www.tinytube.it/mobile.aspx and search for youtube videos, choose Search "youtube" and "Play with TCPMP"

Give props to zbop for doing the hardworkd of relaying this to TreoCentral!! (original thread)

Also, from zbop:

EDIT: You will need to periodically cleanup the leftover playlist files (.m3u) that are in the "\My Documents" folder on your Treo.

Also, the search site is a little buggy. You will get ASPX errors or "file not found" errors if you:
- enter a search string that returns no videos
- if your session times out
- if it doesn't correctly parse the video-ID from the .swf file.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sample Pic: This is what Youtube is good for. TCPMP, full-screen. Note this will look better on any other WM device, since the Treo has, ahem limited resolution.

Thanks for sharing! YouTube is fun to watch when you're sitting at the doctors office and waiting for an appointment, or sitting at the bar by yourself getting drunk. LOL

no such luck. I get the error, "no associated blah blah blah" I checked TCPMP settings and .m3u is checked. as a matter of fact, I couldn't even play the video after opening the player and selecting that file. Let me try a different video....

nope... here's what I did..

1) Installed and followed installation instructions as posted
2) opened website and selected "YouTube" and "Play with TCPMP"
3) Received error "There is no application associated with "389659614. Run the application first, then open this file from within the application."

EDIT: Okay, after playing around with things it seems my TCPMP is messed up. It opens a video but doesn't display the play, pause or any other buttons. I'm going to remove / reinstall.

I'm not sure why I even want it or why I keep going for it. Maybe just because it's there. But I tried this route to YouTube and keep getting a "Server error in '/' Application. Root element is missing." It comes up after I click on Search in http://www.tinytube.it/mobile.aspx
I followed all the directions and don't know why it doesn't work, unless it's a Treo-specific solution. I'm on a PPC6700 with stock rom (waiting for the latest official3.3/kitchen3.5 to show up).

<edit>
I got it!! It was too simple. I thought you had to get to YouTube to select your file, but you just run your topic or artist name in the search box on the TinyTube page (duh). Works perfectly!!!!

Is there a version of TCPMP that displays properly on the XV6700? (i'm running Kervins NoJunk) but the "play / pause / forward" and other control buttons don't show up at the bottom of the screen.

I have been using blueapple.mobi and works really well, it converts the flv online to asf and then you watch in in WMP, it works great for me.

I set it up as instructed, and all I get is "Could not open URL!"
