It's only out for BlackBerry ... for now ... Google Sync Beta for iPhone, WinMo and SyncML Phones Monday, February 9, 2009 9:15 AM One of the hardest parts about switching phones is getting your address book and calendar to your new device. We're making that process a little easier by releasing a beta version of Google Sync for the iPhone and Windows Mobile phones as well as a contacts-only version for phones that support SyncML. For iPhone and Windows Mobile devices, Google Sync allows you to get your Gmail Contacts and Google Calendar events to your phone. Once you set up Sync on your phone, it will automatically begin synchronizing your address book and calendar in the background, over-the-air, so you can attend to other tasks. Sync uses push technology so any changes or additions to your calendar or contacts are reflected on your device in minutes. The connection is always on so you don't have to manually sync your phone after Sync has been set up. This means that when your colleague changes the time of the TPS report cover sheets meeting, you'll know about it right away. Since Sync is a two-way service, you can make changes on your phone or in your Google Account. Your calendar and contacts are always up-to-date, no matter where you are or what you're doing. Also, since your data is automatically backed up to your Google Account, it's securely stored even if you lose your phone. For devices that support the open SyncML protocol, Google Sync will allow for two-way contacts synchronization. If you're a BlackBerry user, a version of Google Sync is already available. Following the Google credo to launch early and iterate, we're introducing Sync in beta. We encourage you to visit our Help Center to review device specific instructions and known issues. Also, please keep in mind that Google Sync may remove all existing contacts and calendar events from your phone, so make sure to back up any important data before you set it up. You can find more information on backing up in the Help Center. Re: Google Sync
Now if Google would only implement email, this would be the killer function, especially since hotmail sux a**cheex

Re: Google Sync
Where's the cab? If I go to m.google.com/sync on my phone, it says to go to that site on my computer to see if it's available.
Can anyone post the cab? |

Re: Google Sync
Be sure and backup the contacts on the device as they are erased initially. I used PIMBackup to backthem up, Sync'ed, Restored them, and resynced, and hopefully everything is in sync now :)

I didn't lose any contacts. I don't think that is a universal issue ... but I'd submit it to the Google Mobile blog just in case |
Re: Google Sync
I cant get it to sync past the initial sync unfortunately. Also I cannot put a domain in after I set it to username@googlemail.com for the username

Re: Google Sync
This is JUST what I was looking for!
Does anyone know of a way to make this sync only calendar items, and not contacts? |
Re: Google Sync
This is awesome.
I was looking for an open-source version of Exchange to do just this. Thanks! |

you have to de-select the check box for "get settings automatically ..." so that you will be taken to the screen for entering the domain name. |
Re: Google Sync
I can't enter in the domain field either. It doesn't let me type anything in there. I can't get the sync to work.

Re: Google Sync
Works great for Calendar, the last achilles heel of Microsoft's Live Hotmail client!
Now those of us on verizon...since this is using Active Sync, how does this affect the $30 vs the $45 data plan? :) I thought the $45 was if you were using "Corporate mail" like Exchange. Do they track this by checking the protocol? |
Re: Google Sync
Anyway to get the contacts to sync to another locations? When I click contacts, I do not want to see a bunch of contacts with only emails.
|
Re: Google Sync
I keep getting support code 0x85010004
edit: never mind. i got it working. |
Re: Google Sync
I am disappointed that once again google apps users are crippled again in their use of a google product. With a Gmail account I can sync up to 5 calendars and with my google apps I cannot. Also, you have to have an iphone to take advantage of this functionality?
I know it's beta but they have a ways to go. |
Re: Google Sync
did you enable sync in your google app domain control panel? i believe you have to do this first for app domains.
|
Re: Google Sync
is there any way for google not to switch the order of the name? i like to have my contacts sorted by first name first and when i update a contact on google it syncs my phone with last name, first name. its just a minor hassle
|
Re: Google Sync
How about replacing my current calendar with my Google Calendar?
|
Re: Google Sync
is there a way to sync my outlook with gmail calendar, gmail calendar to phone, so there always synced?
|
Re: Google Sync

http://dl.google.com/googlecalendars..._Installer.exe allows you to sync outlook calendar to gmail. then sync using gmails new exchange to your phone. |
Re: Google Sync

|
Re: Google Sync

Re: Google Sync
Have you all tried NuevaSync?
https://www.nuevasync.com/ use this to sync google/gmail contacts to wm phones or sync with plaxo you can also sync with google calendar. this guy gives a nice tutorial on nuevasync and google setup (with pics) http://www.tipsfor.us/2008/12/24/syn...ith-nuevasync/ if you use thunderbird, then look at his slightly more complicated, but still really good tutorial for using plaxo...which if you use plaxo, you can also set a 'sync' point with plaxo for your outlook, hotmail, yahoo, and others..to link all of your accounts. http://www.tipsfor.us/2008/04/19/syn...ogle-for-free/ no cabs needed on your phone...just enter the nuevasync settings in activesync. this program seems to be really really good compared with the google sync for blackberry... |
Official Google Sync
Unless I'm crazy, Google just snuck this out:
http://www.google.com/mobile/winmo/sync.html I just checked the page 2 days or so ago and syncing with Blackberry was the only option, but apparently they recently (today?) made syncing available through other platforms. They implemented Exchange based syncing, so all it takes is setting up Activesync. |
Re: Official Google Sync
looks cool..installing right now
|
Re: Official Google Sync
yeah, google licensed exchange protocol to sync calendar and contacts starting the 9th of Feb.
It will only sync calendar and contacts, NOT email. But it does it through exchange, supporting push and email can still be done via IMAP or POP3. It is an EXCELLENT option for windows mobile phone users who use Google calendar and Gmail, and don't have an exchange server from work/school/other large organization. |
Re: Official Google Sync
I was very excited to see this today, what an awesome option ... I personally use Google Calendar as my primary calendar, so this couldn't have come at a better time. I am so far not regretting leaving my Blackberry Storm.
|
Re: Official Google Sync
You don't know how long I have been waiting for this. I didn't want to use googsync or the other one that I can't name at the moment to sync my calendar and contacts. I guess one of my wishes came true. =)
Right now, the only problems I have is duplicate contacts because I jumped the gun and didn't organize my contacts. >.> |
Re: Official Google Sync
so will this push gmail as it arrives, if so Im deleting my hotmail account. My gmail account has amazing spam filters Ive spent years setting up while this hotmail account is lame
|
Re: Official Google Sync
Uhm, I could be wrong but from what I heard it does not do push email.
|
Re: Google Sync
Has anyone successfully used this on a Sprint Touch Pro? If so, can I get a lot of help? lolol I've been trying to get it to sync for the past 6 hours. Thanks
