Make sure you have signed into google calendar at least once. That was the fix to my problem.

I can't find a method yet that works consistently to sync calendar items. How can this be released in this shape? (and don't say it's in Beta as all Google software is in Beta status forever it seems).

I used to use Google Calendar sync for Outlook and don't recall fighting with it like this. I'll try your 11-1am method though.

After a good night's sleep I woke up this morning with the answer as to why I was seeing deleted and changed events "mysteriously" come back. A bit embarr***** that it took me so long to realize that I still had the old Calendar Sync service running on my desktop PC which was continuously sending my Outlook calendar to Google. So I was changing things using my phone or Google Calendar only to have Outlook keep syncing it's old events back to Google.

Now things are behaving more normally.

I didn't see that step necessary. Especially since the field is colored (inactive). I entered the text in that field and it disappeared immediately after I clicked off of that field. I just pressed next and it still sync'd my junk ... are you still having troubles sync'g

Same here, I left the domain field blank since it's grayed out. Not only that, but my e-mail address is @gmail.com, so I entered that instead of googlemail.com. It worked fine for me the first time I tried to set it up.

Use this program. It works wonders for me. http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/Bu...er-56806.shtml

Its called contact changer and it does just that. It changes the way all of your contacts are filed to either first or last name first and you can add the company line as well...So right after a flash and my first sync I run that program and about 5-10 seconds later my contacts are perfect and it doesn't effect them on google, just how WM files them.

Well its not doing it to all my contacts which is mind boggling. I tried that program but google server keeps changing them back. There is no place in google contacts to change them to first name first. I changed the setting in Active Sync that says if ther eis a conflict to not change the device but it still changes a select few contacts... blah:protest:

I'm now getting support code 0x8000405 when my Touch Pro tries to sync with Google. I tried the usual fix of deleting the EAS account and reconfiguring but I'm still getting the error. Apparently other people are as well, there are some posts about it on Google Help? Anyone around here having this problem?

zero157h7 02-23-2009 07:40 PM

Re: Google Sync

I do not know what is causing the problem, but I had a problem initially, deleted the settings and got it to work.

make sure that your username has the @gmail.com on it, your password is correct, there should be nothing in domain (and it should be grayed out once you have put the @gmail.com as this is the same information), the server should be m.google.com, and uncheck tasks and email, and only have contacts and calendar checked. If all of that is correct then I would say there may be something in your gmail account that needs to be changed (theory) or you may want to try a hard reset/different rom/

letsgoflyers81 02-23-2009 09:38 PM

Re: Google Sync

I restored to a backup from last night and it's syncing properly now. Something in the calendar must have been corrupted and causing the problem. So even though I was deleting and recreating the connection, the same corrupted data was preventing my phone from syncing with Google.

It works really well. I was using Dashwire to sync my contacts over before I found out about Google Sync, but I like Sync more because it handles my calendar in the phone's native browser, reminds, repetitions and all. If you have contacts with Google accounts as well, it makes their profile picture their picture on your phone too, which I think is neat.

and as I said earlier in this thread and I am not sure everyone picked up on, you can sync your google contacts with facebook and have it automatically port over their profile picture and other info, and of course to the phone via activesync.

Direct to link to app

Some thoughts

That is strange. I got it to work straight from my desktop and them from a folder in my documents. What os are you using?

It should ask for gmail login info, then facebook, but the fb info has to be approved within facebook.

Hey, I am one of those guys that still has the phantom message notification at the bottom of TF3D after installing setting up this Google Sync. Could somebody please tell me where to go specifically to erase this message? I use flexmail to receive my push email from gmail, so I do not even have an account set up directly on the phone in that area where you see email/picmail/text messages via that hard button on the keyboard...

Please help! Thanks

Open up your Gmail account, then in the upper-left corner select the "Inbox" drop-down menu and open your "Outlook E-mail" folder. You should see an Exchange Welcome e-mail there.

Thanks...since I didn't actually even have the gmail account set up in the native email system (I use flexmail), I had to manually add it, then delete the message both from the gmail account, and then the outlook dropdown...now the indicator is gone and I deleted the acct again from the native email system...thanks a mil for the specifics on the tip...

Re: Google Sync

After a lot of trial and error I discovered the upgraded HTC album found in the thread below was causing the problem. I eventually hard reset and started installing apps one by one, testing Activesync each time. It's definitely the HTC album that's doing it, so if anyone else is having problems and has it installed, try removing it.

all the info about syncing multiple calendars seems to be for the iphone.
so I'm guess this can't be done yet for WM?

Re: Google Sync

I was able to get my phone to sync very easily thanks to all the great instructions, but now I'm worried that I don't have a data plan and am syncing regularly. Does anyone know if Verizon charges you to sync to google calendar through active sync?

also, I have a palm treo and once the sync starts and it connects to the network, it doesn't disconnect on its own. Is there any way to get it to disconnect automatically when it's done?

Thanks!!

letsgoflyers81 03-14-2009 11:58 PM

Re: Google Sync

Verizon (like other carriers) will charge you for every single byte of data you transfer over their network. I highly suggest you get a data plan. A WM smartphone will easily cost you more in per kb charges than if you get a monthly plan.

tbrocc 03-15-2009 12:36 AM

Re: Google Sync

even if you're connecting via active sync?

I've been searching for hours....is it possible that after you sync your palm treo (windows mobile) to the network that it doesn't disconnect on its own? Wouldn't that mean it stays connected all day and would drain your battery? is there any way around that?

letsgoflyers81 03-15-2009 11:06 AM

Re: Google Sync

Do you mean connecting ActiveSync with your computer, or ActiveSync with an Exchange server (like Google) over the air?

If you want to sync your WM contacts and/or calendar to Google and don't have ActiveSync being used by another account, then yes.

I've found it to be quite reliable, never really had any problems with it. And it will sync up to 11 calendars.

They seem to be quite responsive to user requests and fix bugs fairly quickly. Not to mention they're working on push email using gmail, which will be very nice.

I only have one calendar to sync, so I'm not sure how it works, but supposedly NuevaSync allows syncing up to 11. It may only work right with the iphone at the moment though, until they add calendar<->category mapping.
