Re: WM 6.5 Kitchen QVGA and VGA Developer Edition

Thanks to dan-htc-touch, we have a PPCK-compatible SYS_21231 (and XIP for Herman). My experience with the dev.unsupported version of PPCK is that you do NOT want to include the Windows Live OEM (GUID 27790533-c966-4097-8a93-c1a83969c574).

He recommends using 21210_DPI and LANG files. I'm using the ones from DaG's 21231 SYS w/o trouble so far. I'll post with any updates (since I've only just started using this build).

If you're greatful to HIM, go find his last post above this one (this should be it) and hit thanks so he knows how many people out there appriciate his work (as I do). I've not seen anyone else in recent history put out as many releases that were PPCK-ready as he has, AND in a timely manner at that (same day generally).

I'll host for now, but if anyone else wants to mirror or setup a mirror, please do so and let me know when I can take mine down.

SYS
CDMA - SYS_21231_Common.rar - Ready for PPCKitchen (dan-htc-touch)
21231_CORE_DPI_LANG.rar - Ready for PPCKitchen (dan-htc-touch and myself. BROWSINGCORE and browsingie have been put through recmod)
GSM - SYS_21231_Complete - Ready for new Visual Kitchen (Da_G)
GSM - SYS_21231_Complete - Ready for older [Visual] kitchen (Da_G)
CDMA Port of GSM - SYS_21231_Complete - Originally from Da_G
XIPS
HERMAN - Herman_21231_xip.rar (dan-htc-touch)
VOGUE - Vogue_21231.rar (ali3nfr3ak)
ELFIN - XIP.21231.rar (dsi76)
ARTEMIS - xip_21231_Artemis.rar (Zecanilis)
ATTENTION: NOT for ego, but as a simple matter of practicality; if you've found this post useful, use the "thanks" button. THAT is how I will gauge whether this was worth my time or not.

I'm trying to convert to QVGA by using my DPI_96 folders from 21222, but there is one problem I am having. After the calibration screen, the images of the stylus and menu are missing. Here are a couple of examples:

http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/1508/stylus.jpg http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/8356/stylus2.jpg

I do have the image files in my Redist* folders though (e.g. stylus1.96.gif, dayview.96.gif). Any ideas?

EDIT: Never mind! Those two files need to be converted to PNG files in this release. Weird. Here they are attached.

Thank you for that.
21231 runing very smooth in my love... :D
No issues till now. Let's see if my incoming call bug has left the building.:D

Cheers

Edit : Here is the Artemis xip.bin

Do you have Lockstream DRM in your XIP boot.rgu and boot.hv? If so, do you also have it in OEM? Usually not having it in one but having it in the other causes the corrupted ringtones issue. At least in my (and Da_G, THANKS!) experiences.

Sorry to bring this up again, since it was a page ago, but in my experience (even with the new Ervius Visual Kitchen) you still need to recmod all modules in the BROWSINGCORE and BROWSINGIE folders. Then there are some random modules here and there that still need to go. What I usually do is do a full build with Ervius Visual (NEW) and then before I flash, I'll run a "G'reloc.exe -dump -doit". It will still error on several modules. I drop these down to file and run it again. (Yes, drop them down in both the DUMP dir and the original location in SYS. Because G'REloc is just looking at the DUMp location. ;) ) I get my sys to completely pass G'Reloc before I flash. It has yet to fail me. :D

Can you explain what you mean by droping down the files?
I tried also pass G'reloc and got some errors, but i can't understand how can i fix them. I cooked has it was with plataformrebuilder and didn't had any issues.
But whould like to know how to do it please.

i believe he is referring to de-modularizing files/folders

to do this you use recmod.exe

simply drag&drop the module you are having problems with on the recmod.exe and it will create the file w/in the module/folder.

then move the newly created file out of the module/folder, delete the module, and move the newly created file back into the folder where the module originally resided.

*here's a de-modularized BROWSINGSCORE & browsingie folders

It will be real hard since, to my knowledge, there are no 96dpi devices in production or in the line for production. MS doesn't like creating builds for devices that won't be widely used. I would think it would be next to impossible to get a native 96dpi release. I would think everything will have to be ported.

That would be VERY sad.. but the Samsung Omnia is 96DPI if I remember well, so hopefuly there will be genuine 96DPI resources after all ;)

Re: WM 6.5 Kitchen QVGA and VGA Developer Edition

Actually, there are several 96 dpi devices being used for development, the majority even (note development and NOT production, who knows what makes it to production)

This is due to the fact that these older devices are more tested, driver base is older and known stable, and the manufacturer (HTC) is more willing to share driver source code, so microsoft can make proper modifications necessary to support any new features (this info from a microsoft blog post on dogfood)

Testing is being done on 96 dpi, 128 dpi, 131 dpi, 192 dpi devices :) ranging from 240x240 up to 480x854 :)

Just a matter of getting my grubby hands on the goods!

Hopefully just a matter of time :)

The big thing would be WWE, but I have a feeling we will be getting more and more of those.

I don't use JD's kitchen. So I can't help you with that. But I do have a fully booting 21231 with 21231 XIP. All courtesy of Da_G. I recmod'd my usual BrowsingIE and BrowsingCore modules. I also recmod'd 4 other files that get an I/O error 105 in G'Reloc. They get it every time, no matter what SYS build, same files. Then My G'Reloc passes without fail. Of course, don't include Sky* crap. There is a problem with the Myphone.exe lang module (like always). I also don't include other crap that isn't needed. Sim_TKIT, ADC, WelcomeCenter, etc.

Thanks Da_G and con. I stand corrected. I think i was thinking "in production" as that would be all they would develop for. Didn't think about what was in their test environments. Muh bad.

I agree. Probably a XIP issue. I have found that in the latest build of XIP (21222), if i included HD.dll, mencfilter.dll and some other .dll it would cause VZW users no boot. I remove those and presto, they boot. But I am using Da_G's exact 21231 XIP (copy and pasted his MSXipKernel folder from his kitchen to mine) and I boot without issues. So I don't think it pertains to this situation. It might be a bad sys. Do the lights on the navi pad light up when you get "no boot"? Usually if the lights come on, its not a XIP issue. No LIghts = stuck during XIP.

The lights coming on or not is a good point. I think that folks are a little quick to blame the XIP sometimes when it won't boot past the first splash. I know that personally I have had several builds which I initially thought were XIP issues that really were a combination of SYS/XIP. I think the big problem is that the CDMA Diamond and TP XIPs can't handle all the modules that the newer SYS have, because the new SYS' are based on XIPs with more available slots.

At any rate, not booting past the first splash screen may or may not be a bad XIP. Don't get stuck on that. Strip down your SYS to the bare essentials, and recmod the browsing dlls as suggested, and give it another go.

Precisely! This is why I use my .VM from a dumped TP rom to run a G'Reloc on the SYS first. This will mostly eliminate a bad SYS issue from a module being too large to fit into the memory allocations. Then I look at XIP as being a culprit by having too many modules that the CDMA kernel (not 6.5 native) can't handle. Oddly, it seems the VZW has a little more of an issue with this than any other CDMA TP. I can't explain it though. That's for the guru's that know every spec and inch of these devices to explain. ;)

Muh bad.

See my above comment.

Same. See my above comment.

Just a habit for me. I have a batch file that recmod's them all. It also does other modules by giving me a menu and letting me enter the path of the module. I love me batch files. Right Da_G?

No LIghts = stuck during XIP.

can i just get your .nbh file that you cooked then so i can just flash. I'm in over my head and i definitely want to learn but i would like to play with this new build in the mean time. Also if you can give me a copy of you xip and sys that would be helpful as well. Thanks in advance

to do this you use redmod.exe

simply drag&drop the module you are having problems with on the redmod.exe and it will create the file w/in the module/folder.

then move the newly created file out of the module/folder, delete the module, and move the newly created file back into the folder where the module originally resided.

*here's a de-modularized BROWSINGSCORE & browsingie folders

Following this suggestion, I have 21231 working great on my TP. Prior builds had corrupted ring-tones and wouldn't launch Magicall.
