Thanks I Dl'ed it, but what changes, if any, have you noticed that would entice me to move from my very customized 21232 build/ROM w/Calk's kitchen?

I'm just wondering if it's worth the effort to Sashimi this one or wait for a 2124x or higher build.

I modded Calk's 21232 as I like to clean it up a bit for my needs; I'm flashing 21234 now for laughs as I was able to quickly refit my 21232 config. Glad to hear you have better results; I hope memory management is better. GWES.exe was sucking RAM like crazy on 21232.

Thanks again; I hit he thanks button now;)

Update: So far so good. Looks like I have a bit more RAM on boot! Haven't had time to give it a real breakin test, but Storage and RAM report fine, so I'm happy. Sashimi away now 8-P

Anyone have solution to memory leak in 21232 gwes? With no changes other than the new 21232 sys and xip from 21231 build my gwes has a large mem leak. On 31 it would hold at approx 5632 kb. On 32 its crept upwards of 8000kb with all other factor remaining the same.

So after being continuously frustrated w/memory consumption of gwes.exe, I did some "cloud" research; aka, Google, and found some interesting info on how gwes can be configured. I can't say I have seen any immediate results, but as these do vary, give it a shot if you want.

What I did see immediate results from was reducing the size/depth of my start menu interface. I tend to use nested folders for navigation, and have many icons duplicated in various folders: eliminating the dups and some of the nesting drastically reduced my gwes memory use, navigation ease not withstanding. Using "fancy" icons also causes gwes to eat memory, so lean low on them if you want to save it. After making changes soft reset to see gwes.exe memory use reduction.

I'm going to see if using SPB MS3 is more memory efficient for main navigation.

Also, I observed Titanium panels do not effect gwes memory use, so perhaps using Titanium will be the better/future of navigation, which eludes to why M$ didn't make the start menu config. options a top priority.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

GWES- Graphics, Windowing and Events Subsystem.

There is a registry setting in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GWE] by the name of PORepaint. This setting determines how gwes handles the display.

By default it is set to 0- The display driver handles all suspend and resume operations.

Here is the possible setting quoted from M$:

ValueDescription
0- The display driver handles all suspend and resume operations.
1- GWE should save and restore the entire screen.
2- GWE should invalidate and repaint the entire screen.
3- GWE and the driver need to save video memory.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edit: I'm now using File Explorer as a Menu Interface. Basically, I've trimmed my Start menu\Programs to a select few "always use" shortcuts. I then moved the remaining main Programs folder structure to my SD card\My Documents\Program Menu folder. I created a linked alias with File Explorer to this folder (using SKKV Shortcut Manager), set options for icon display and no links display in MSE, and viola... a menu system that's alphabetic, much easier to manage, and best of all... drastically cuts gwes.exe memory consumption! I really like this system a lot, and until M$ figures out how to have gwes.exe better manage memory, will never use the start menu for more than a few programs again. If you're looking for a very cool and memory efficient alternative to the PITA system in WM65, then give this a try, you may wonder why it isn't done this way by default.

Hmmm, experienced that a long time ago and mine was an attribute problem. You can handle different kitchens [that's where I envy you], am guessing you built with Platform Rebuilder, use ppck your result might be different.

Working on 6.5 all goes ok untill the sys 21232 and 21234. The sms screen shows white. The MMS works ok. I tried with some of the sys shared here and work with diferent mui files (spanish) cause i thought it could be translation error, but i keeps white.
Some idea?

i guess because tht theme is problematic... coz i knw, when i make themes, sometimes when some file is missing or some registry of the theme isnt right... i get the same result as specified... so i see and fix the issue and eveything goes fine, so problem is in the theme most probably :o

Yeah, that is likely the reason. I also noticed that if I use those custom themes from xda (the ones that copy to My Documents\Themes), then sometimes the menu style suddenly reverts to the 6.1 style. When I go to the Today theme settings, the theme is no longer in the list!

For my own ROMs, I edit the registry for the theme's TSK file so that it looks under \Windows instead of the Themes folder. I do the same for the mxipcold_wpc_2.provxml file (I also copy the theme to \Windows and not \My Documents\Themes).

It's a file attribute. +h means it's hidden. Easiest thing to do is go out to command prompt, go to the folder your having trouble with and run this command:

attrib -h -s -r *.* /s /d

I just do that from the root of my SYS files and make sure all files have all attributes removed.

Yes i know, but for example how do you translate this:
<characteristic type="E-mail.lnk">
<parm name="Rank" value="900000978" datatype="integer" />
<parm name="Icon" value="\Windows\Start_Icon_Msg.png" datatype="string" />
</characteristic>
!??

Nice, just found out... :D
If i paste here what it says in the file then all makes sence... hehehe
If someone is interested in translate the start menu icons i think this file can help... :D

HTC Phone Canvas fix for WM6.5

1 Attachment(s)
Thanks to my buddy chihliouma at xda-developers, here's a fix from some Chinese forum that allows Phone Canvas to work properly in WM6.5, i.e. without the messed up Contact list scrolling:
  • Extract the files in the attachment below to your kitchen, OR
  • If you have Phone Canvas already running on your WM6.5 phone, then terminate the cprog.exe process (with FdcSoft Task Manager or equivalent program), and then copy the files in the attachment to \Windows, and reset.
Confirmed working on my GSM Diamond and also the Elf/Elfin (GSM Touch)...
:headbang:

BTW, if you're cooking it, then make sure these files overwrite the existing versions (with the same file names) found in your SYS.

Re: HTC Phone Canvas fix for WM6.5

Thanks dsi76.

BTW; does this solve phone canvas conflicting with lockscreen?

Problem details ( Not sure anyone faced this ) : When the device is locked ( StartMenu -> Lock 'softkey' ); I get a call; And both phone canvas and lockscreen conflicts or crashes or slide to ans windows comes in front instead of lockscreen's. :scratch:

Will this solve with this patched cprog.exe? Or is there any solution(s) for this?

Best Regards
