WeatherPanel Question!!!!

I have noticed my memory draining, and I think I have tracked it to WeatherPanel. Every time it updates, my Treo 700wx looses about 2.5 MB of memory. I was wondering if there was a way of manually emptying the memory cache (I assume that is what is happening). I think I see it in a data folder in WeatherPanel, but I don't want to do anything until I ask the gurus here. (maybe I will just put WP on my memory card)

I believe the data folder you're talking about contains your radar images, forecase data, and hourly info. Deleting this data will really do nothing as it will appear as soon as WP updates.

Here are a couple things you can do that may decrease memory usage.

1. decrease the overall number of radar "grabs" that you're doing. If you have 4 cities in WP and you're grabbing 2 radar images for each you may want to knock that down to 1 image per city.

2. decrease the frequency of updates for WP in general. I have mine set to update every 2 hours.

3. change the radar image "purge after" time to something less than 12 hours. You can get to this setting by going to Weather Images and selecting edit for your radar images.

I'm not a WP guru but these may help.

Additionally, unless you're downloading a bunch of info for WP I would be really surprised if it's dropping your main memory by 2.5 MB...that seems excessive. I can see it going down maybe 0.20 MB. Perhaps there is something else going on.

I swear Coz....I should just PM you with my questions, you always have good info!!

Here is where I am with your suggestions:

1- Already did that, I have 4 cities, and one image for three of them (none on the fourth)

2- 2 hours is exactly what I have been using as well!!

3- I was looking for something like this, I will look again, maybe I missed it.

P.S. I had the decimal point in the wrong place, it is .2 (but on the wx, that does add up fast) I was thinking of maybe posting in a mortscript forum and see if someone can create a script to place in the startup folder to purge the data folder at every reset.....what do you think?

If you're worried about memory I'd set your "purge after" time to something like 1 hour or 2 hours. That data file in Weather Panel will only grow to a certain size and then WP will start to purge the data as new data becomes available and replaces the old data. If it didn't do that then in about a day or two your memory would be all gone.

Let us know what happens.

Just found it and set the purge time to 2 hours (same as update) I will see how it goes!!!!

(Now I have to figure out why my Activesync went south on me last night (if was NOT a good night for me and my Treo!!!) LOL

I currently have 4 different cities with at least 6-7 images or traffic cams for each...I generally keep 2 of those disabled via clicking on the city>>edit>>Advanced Options>>Disble. Does that keep the memory requirements down as well? Good tip on the purge data setting.

I believe that when you disable a city that yes, the downloaded data (radar images, traffic cams, etc.) is not downloaded to your device and thus you are not using up your memory.
