I think this will give everyone a better understanding of what is and isn't available for WinMo and maybe get some developers pointed in the right direction. Maybe I should start learning C++/C#...

I'll keep this first post updated with results. If you have a better suggestion for the Windows Mobile Solution than whats listed be sure to let us know!

Here's our first challenge:

I don't really understand your question but if you want to be able to use the websites with special interfaces for iphone like gmail, orb, facebook then you just do this mod.

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=44974

I use it on my Diamond and it works great.

Its not a question. I created this thread so that if people see an app for the iPhone and would like to have it on their Windows Mobile phone they can post it here and get some help from other members who have lots of experience and knowledge about WinMo apps. While the thread you posted does help with the interface on certain websites it doesn't provide an app that displays similar information as the Snow Reports app that sherv is asking for. I hope this better explains the concept of this thread.

I am not sure if we are talking freeware only or just apps for WM that do what the i-app in question does, but Fizzweather gives ski updates:

I'd give a +1 to free apps. If its not free I'm not gonna complain. At least its out there for WinMo.

What would be nicer is if developers came together for something like this. They could make a living off of it and we'd have all the awesome apps we requested.

It can always be requested in these forums, XDA has a lot of great developers there as well!! You never know untill you ask!!!

Some do it for the love of accomplishing a goal...look at A_C over at XDA....( http://www.ac-s2.com/ For those not in the knoa)...I am sure he gets a lot of donations, but I am also sure he hasn't quit his day job, he loves what he does with those apps!!!!

P.S. I just covered image viewers, locking mechanism, callerID screen, and MP3 player!!!

Re: This iPhone App = This WinMo App

Im not talking about donations. Im talking about starting a paid service. We get apps, they get money. Everyone is happy. A central app store would definitely help as well. If they can get that gecko app to be less terrible, it could work.

Thanks for starting this thread, Dannzeman! I'm gonna go play with my friends' iPhones to see what really is lacking and if it's anything substantial or not.

edit: So with regards to the ski condition app I requested, Fizz Weather looks like a great program but it's really not what I'm looking for...it appears to me that the iPhone apps are mostly very singular in their function and that can help keep them cheap/free. Fizz is $17 whereas the iPhone app is $1 or 2. Fizz does a whole host of weather reporting whereas Ski Condition (or whatever it's called) only reports on snowfall and such. There are already a plethora of weather apps, hell, my Touch Pro has a built-in one which is sufficiently detailed for my needs...

This isn't a thread for finding pretty looking software. Its meant to find software for Windows Mobile phones that functions similarly to an app on the iPhone.

well.. it is an app on the iphone, actually, it is several apps on the iphone...

http://http://gizmodo.com/5077774/ip...ard-situations

----> http://http://www.magictap.net/fakecalls/

i know that there is one called Fake Call for winmo, but it hardly compares, its buggy and it doesn't even integrate into the phone interface.. i mentioned the tf3d bit because i think for it to be comparable to the iphone version of this app, it needs to at least be capable of integrating itself graphically as well... like the iphone.

i had just figured this app was known well enough that linking would be futile... but regardless, sorry, i should have provided more information.

but anyways... any ideas?

I've used this app on my device and haven't noticed any problems with it. It hasn't been buggy at all for me and I think it integrates just fine into the os. And whats wrong with the style of Fake Call, I think it follows the WinMo theme prefect.

The reason it doesn't integrate well with tf3d is because tf3d isn't the standard visual theme for Windows Mobile. Its a 3rd party skin on top of Windows Mobile created by HTC, so how could an app default into the tf3d style? What if someone was running a skin using SPB Shell? Do you expect Fake Call to integrate into the same style as that too? The iPhone was designed to be beautiful and only has one theme, so the fake call app can be designed with that in mind.

I checked out AroundMe briefly and I think Windows Live Search pretty much does the same thing. Check out wls.live.com in IE6 on your phone browser.

Man, the beauty and ease of use of some of these apps kinda makes me want to get an iPhone, well, err, maybe an iPod Touch. I can't give up my awesome Sprint plan to switch to at&t.

There might be a good reader app like Stanza but there's not really a WinMo device that will make the experience as enjoyable (if you can call reading on these small devices enjoyable) as on the iPhone's large screen.

The closest thing to the Bloomberg app I could find is the Bloomberg AvantGo Channel or some other similar RSS feed.

Unfortunately Pandora hasn't been developed, well, released, for Windows Mobile yet.

LOL. I am in the same boat. I can't stand ATT. But I have found the best of both worlds. I use wmwifirouter to create a wifi hotspot and all 3 of the apps work perfectly on my ipod touch. That is something that no iphone can do.

thank you for your detailed feedback!

i understand that TF3D isn't the native windows theme. To be more concise, what i meant was im looking for an app that would imitate a call in such a way that it would fit in well with the interface.

just to clarify, i apologized specifically because i realize i should have provided more information. Any future posts i make on this thread i will be sure to include a link!

I know you wanted it to integrate into the TouchFlo interface better. What I'm saying is that I don't think they can program the app to adapt and change itself to whatever theme or interface is on top of WM. Besides, if you need that app to get out of a certain situation it'll work and I doubt anyone will notice its a fake call simply because of the interface, unless they have a Touch Diamond/Pro too and are looking directly at your device.

My only concern is it provides the same functionality as the equivalent iPhone app.

If you're talking about the ability to shake your phone and have it randomly pick a place, I don't think there's anything out there for that. But if you just want an app that'll hook you up with a place to eat I'm sure I can find something.

What station are you looking for? I'd probably just do a google search for internet radio stations apps and see if they offer your station. Off the top of my head I know Kinoma makes a really good streaming app but I'm not sure what stations they offer. I'm sure there's lots of other people around here that can think of a streaming radio app.

I found a Pandora app that was written for windows mobile over at everythingq.com forums.

http://www.everythingq.com/forum/sof...tml#post272051

I installed it on my diamond and it works. A few quirks I've noticed so far:
1) Obviously not made for a VGA device, but I'm sure some of you might fare better than I. The text is waaay too small. I HAD to use my stylus.
2) To enter in your email and password, I exited out of the program, went back to the programs screen, activated the keyboard, and then opened the Pandora app.
3) For some reason, it does not show up in my task manager. I hope its just mine - it can be a b**** to exit out of (again - HAD TO USE THE STYLUS).
4) So far - it appears that my phone needs to stay awake in order to maintain a stream.

I'm hoping everyone here can figure out ways or registry hacks to get around these limitations, but the app itself is pretty sweet. Audio quality is pretty good too :)

No, there is not a Lil Wayne app for Windows Mobile, thank God! I would think there has to be a photo editing app where you can do similar things to pictures on the fly though. Although, nothing probably as crazy as the lil wayne app.

There isn't a native facebook app for WinMo. If you're using a Touch Pro (and possibly other phones but don't quote me on that) there is a hack you can do to get the web page to render the same as on the iphone. Do a search for it here on the boards and you should be able to find it.

Yeah, I know Pandora released an app for WinMo phones on at&t. As far as I knew you couldn't install it on other phones but I think the fine folks at xda are working on that. I'll do some more research before I update the first post with it.

It looks like the Pandora app located at everythingq is working pretty darn good on my 800w. Here's the link from xda that should take you to the op. The only problem I've noticed on my 800w is that pressing down on the 5-way lowers the volume and I can't figure out how to increase it again without exiting and restarting the app. But everything else works very well. Enjoy.

And thanks to pjsync for bringing this up earlier. Bravo.
