I know this thread is old, but I came across it as I had the same question. I ended up adding Windows Live to the today screen and doing a sync with my hotmail. Now my Hotmail account is included under "Messaging" - then updated the today screen to remove Windows Live. First, make sure Sync is enable in Windows Live options.
