WM6: Anyway to get Hotmail through "Messaging"

I just upgraded from WM5 to WM6 and can't find a way to set up my Hotmail account through Messaging. Is it just not possible to do this? So I have to go through PIE? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Re: WM6: Anyway to get Hotmail through "Messaging"

HA! Yes I have a Treo, and I do get the prompts to add it, but if I check "try to get my settings automatically from the internet" it just gives me a link to Windows Live mobile. And then if I uncheck that box to set it up myself, it asks for an incoming mail server. And maybe because I'm still a newbie ... I don't think Hotmail required those, so assumed I was doing something wrong? Also I think Hotmail uses HTTP and it's asking me to choose POP3 or IMAP. Is there a way around that?

Re: WM6: Anyway to get Hotmail through "Messaging"

I did, but it doesn't add hotmail under my messaging screen when I close out of Internet Exporer ....

I do have a premium msn subsciption as well, and with some searching found the incoming and outgoing servers, but for some reason, it doesn't like my e-mail address and password.

Very strange ... and frustrating. Any help is much appreciated Thanks!

Hey there,

I'm having the same problem with WM6 and hotmail. I've been looking for a fix for a month now...so far nothing works.

Re: WM6: Anyway to get Hotmail through "Messaging"

humm...surprising...cuz I went to "messaging"....then "set up an email account"...entered my details...and bingo....works like a charm.

or try this.....go thru outlook email set-up.

Should work.

my 2 cents.
Cheers.

Just tried again, and still won't work. Just gives a link to the Live login page.

Re: WM6: Anyway to get Hotmail through "Messaging"

Now that is messed up. Here Bentley and the other dude, let's try the old trick. When prompted to enter your email, please enter some garbage hh@xyz.com and continue,it will ask for your provider and whatever else . Now you may be in business!!! report back.

Hotmail works really well. The reason why we responded the way we did b/c it didn't take us to the log in page when we did ours a while back. Now it does and it did after I tried. I am sure it is something to do with the hotmail server being modified.

My pet like greenies...lol

Re: WM6: Anyway to get Hotmail through "Messaging"

Just set up hotmail to forward to another email address that works on your phone. If you dont have one, set up a gmail address. I'm not sure exactly where it is in hotmail, but somewhere in the settings you can forward a copy to another email address. Hotmail is iffy, the only email provider that either works or doesn't for no particular reason.
