Re: Looking for a OBD II software solution

I have been looking into something like this . I was really wondering how good it works before buying. I have a evap problem on one of my 98 Fords I can't figure out for the life of me. Basically I would like for something like this to do more advanced stuff like having access to toggle sensors etc without having to buy a 3000$ OBD II computer. I am just really curious on how deep this software goes.

OBD II monitors range from $30-$90 typically. You can get them from autozone, advanced autoparts, and just about any other auto store. Typically they're orange. I have one for my OBD II cars. The $3000 range you get the select monitor, which does EVERYTHING, including full programability, which is a bit excessive. Though I do have one, for other purposes, that I didn't have to pay $3000 for, you need a seperate cartrage for each vehicle, even if you have two of the same but different years. TYpically the only people that need these are automotive specialists and shops.

Re: Looking for a OBD II software solution

I am very interested in hearing someone's success story about this though, to avoid having it not work. Bluetooth sounds awesome, and if it works with the software that goes on the phone that would be sweet and save me a lot of trouble lugging equipment around.

Re: Looking for a OBD II software solution

ok so i got the bluetooth obdII adapter today, i tried scantool and it didnt want to con nect to the treo, ODB Guage worked perfectly fine, although sometimes it would gice me trouble commecting, i connected using com port 4 and i checked the serial option in the bluetooth settings. i also tried to connect to it using my friends nokia n800 with software called "carman" and it seemed to be more stable using that but it was stilla bit glitchy, i will look into this more later this week hopefully

Re: Looking for a OBD II software solution

I bought an OBDII cable for $70 on ebay, but I haven't found any WM software for it.

For $500 you can easily find a custom tuner system for your vehicle. I know, specifically for my car, I can get LS1edit which lets me change EVERYTHING in the computer. Highly dangerous/amazing.

$3000 on a scanner would be foolish unless you were a mechanic, because even those high-end scanners aren't capable of tuning like the specific systems are...

Re: Looking for a OBD II software solution

So I'm guessing your plan didn't work out? Did you ever figure out a way to get this to work?
