Introducing Qik: Live Video Streaming from your PPC

Qik is a new service that allow you to stream live video from your phone to a blog or friend & family members. Once you complete a live stream from your mobile device the Qilk will then archive the video directly on their site like You Tube. Today, Qik officially entered public beta. As long as you have a smartphone running Windows Mobile and a data plan, you're ready to share whatever your little heart desires.

Qik is a very cool service. Basically, if you're a mobile video fanatic, you need to sign up. I shoot video using my cell phone all the time. Transferring it to other sites was a major pain until Qik came around. Using Qik, any video you shoot is streamed live, and also archived at the same time, so you can watch it again later. For those who need to share what they see and don't think picture messages or MMS messages are enough, this is the avenue you need to take.

According to the Qik blog, the service supports several Windows Mobile devices and about two dozen S60 smartphones from Nokia. Qik is working to add more phones to the list of devices it supports, and currently has a private alpha available for the iPhone. Even if you have a phone that is not supported, you can sign up and join in the community aspect of Qik.
The beta program is free, and requires users to have a data plan with their carrier. I suggest you check it out.

www.qik.com

As of today only four windows mobile phones are supported, Motorola Q9c, Motorola Q9h , Samsung Blackjack II , and the Samsung SGH-I600, with promised support the HTC Shift, HTC Touch, HTC Touch Diamond, and the HTC TyTN II. I can't see why anyone with a Window Mobile 5/6 phone can't post the cab and expect it not work with most other WM devices.

I wasn't able to download - HTC Sprint Vogue (6900).

Re: Introducing Qik: Live Video Streaming from your PPC

they'd just said they would let us know when it would be available to move forward. I would love to compare this with Livecast. Because as we know, not a lot of people know about Livecast, but because of Qik and its association with the Nokia N95, it is considered to be more well known, and the interface seemed to be better.

No, it's not working on my Mogul for the same reason, I'm trying to get other members to give me a cab file, if I obtain one I'll post it.

from the list of supported devices it looks like they aren't supporting any pocket pc's right now, just smart phones, but soon for the touch screens, however in the coming soon I don't see the mogul listed :/

I wrote to them regarding upcoming support for the Titan, and here's the response (I got a response back within 30 minutes, not bad for this time of night).

Yes, we do have plans on supporting the Titan as well in the coming months.

Qik (stream live video from your Pocket PC)

Qik just released a new version for us Pocket PC users :) So far I got it running on my Mogul with no problems, looks good too.

Qik allows you to stream live video directly from your phone, similar to livecast but IMO much better.

http://www.qik.com to sign up :)

not sure if it works on the Touch, someone post if it works for you on the Touch :)

What makes this better then livecast? I noticed with Livecast there was about a 30 second delay while streaming live. What's the delay on this app?

Great....lets do away with the Media Moguls in the States and do a bit of reporting with this one. Bravo....this takes better video than the Q9 factory cam....This should be fun.
I'll bring you some cool shots from the UW atop whatever I can! Grace Peace and Mercy to you all. Blessings

You NEED to have the text message they send to you on the device to get it to Authorize.
They have been having trouble sending to Sprint customers (VZW too) and they are fixing that soon.
For now send their support people an email or call them and they will send you a Auth TXT via another "working" method.
By the way... It works GREAT!
Seems to be a little more FUN than Comvu (which is nice) I.M.H.O.
Hope it helps... :)

I actually did get text, twice. Both had the download link in them, and i was able to create an account. Was i supposed to get a different text, besides the ones i did receive? I got 2 cause i requested another after the first failed to authorize for quite a while. I hope i can get it working eventually. dschoenike

Re: Introducing Qik: Live Video Streaming from your PPC

I found the cab dl elsewhere. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...27#post2612427

For the record, I did get the sms message and it said authorized but my phone was not supported.

I did load it and it works great. I just loaded this and the livecast. so far between the 2 qik is better imho.

faster, less delay and better interface

Re: Introducing Qik: Live Video Streaming from your PPC

I've got Livecast, and it works just fine. I am trying this, but... it won't let me. it keeps telling me the country (USA) is invalid. What gives? Anyone else get it to work?

"Country is invalid. Please select a valid country."

viper8u2 09-07-2008 12:05 PM

Re: Introducing Qik: Live Video Streaming from your PPC

I did not get any problems with the USA part. It must of saw my previous sms and authorized??

Re: Introducing Qik: Live Video Streaming from your PPC

its telling me country is invalid as well...

lifeuw19 09-08-2008 10:34 AM

Re: Introducing Qik: Live Video Streaming from your PPC

Country invalid problem seems to be fixed. So far, so good. I like the fact that the video interface is full-screen, compared to Livecast. Also appears the delay is shorter. I'll have to play with this and see which is better...

Thanks, Yeah I know that

I have it installed now and have an account. Infact I used it last night.

When I click on "upgrade" in the application it launches PIE and says:

"We're sorry - download is not currently available for this device"

I am on version 1.10, there is a later version
