Re: Opera Mobile Offical Beta 9.5.1 Build 1718 (Updated)

The skin file for 1718 is found under:>application data>opera 9.5>skin. The actual files are in the zip file but you don't need to unzip them just copy the entire zip file to the skin directory in the other build.

Re: Opera Mobile Offical Beta 9.5.1 Build 1718 (Updated)

I've had the issue with multitasking after Opera has run the memory low, or if I've used Oxios to free memory. After a soft reset and before running opera the multitasking seems ok. I tried opening over ten programs including the three MS office apps, google maps, live search, IE, TCPMP, and some others all at the same time with a couple of megs free.

Disabling opera's plug-ins and the javascript helps slow down the memory drain. I can use opera to look for a video (like youtube) then copy the address to IE which will open it in TCPMP. A little clumsy but better than searching with IE.

when they enable activeX, you wont be needing PIE anymore! Video streaming via flash player FTW!

giving it for free may not be the smartest thing, but it is a possibility i suppose.
True, but also remember Opera has other browsers they make (desktop, mini, and the one that comes with the Wii (among other's) their main source of income is deals with other companies (like HTC, Nintendo, etc, etc, and also the deal they have with Google. So even if they make this free they are still getting money.

But back in the day Opera used to charge for their desktop version, later on they decided to stop charging, and after that happened they actually started getting more money altogether then they were as a paid product.

So the bottom line, the more people that would use Opera Mobile, the more money they will get if it's free..... (opera has a deal with Google, which is why it's on the homepage, so for every search you do with Google using that Opera gets some money)..

not sure if that makes any sense, as I'm kinda rambling as it's late... but as I said before Opera now has some serious competition on their hands, and something they didn't have before.

Fair point. If they are going to bundle Flash, they will likely have to pay Adobe for every single damn download. So they would have no choice but to charge.

But they haven't said anything yet. I hope it becomes free of charge.

Or atleast thats what i think will happen cuz it IS suppose to support flash. the older betas like 1409 would load a vid in youtube but play real choppy then crash.
So what you are saying is that Flash would crash the browser? Sounds like a good reason to disable it temporarily for a beta to me

When the desktop version of Opera became free, their revenue per quarter from the desktop version started climbing by 50-100%. Apparently there's more money in a free version with search revenue on the desktop. Opera gets paid every time you use the search field, just like Firefox.

Are there any touch users in here that can report about the "out of memory" as well as the multitasking issue? I don't want to install it until I get my 8gb card in the mail...just curious as to what to expect.
