I hate to pass this along, but because of a coding dispute (A_C got ambushed basically) development on this app has been stopped!!

A_C will look into other methods if he feels like it, but no promises, so I guess if you have it, keep it, and deal with the bugs, because there won't be support for it an longer!!

I'm sorry to tell you that I have to suspend the development of this application for a while until I found or develop another decorder library. The reason is that S2P has used the MAD library which is under the terms of GPLv2. Under the terms of GPLv2, S2P has to open its source to the public if it's distributed to the public. Obviously, I haven't done that and not willing to do so. So, I have to stop distributing it to the public.

However, again, thank you for your support to S2P.

I cannot begin to even express how vex (upset) I am about this .

The woman just basically shut down a guy who develops all his stuff for free... and for the betterment of PPCers everywhere, sigh. Nice guys always finish last...

And the way it was done was just so unprofessional and wrong, period. She came on the forum, dropped the legal ramblings and demanded that he provide the source/binary code for the program, or stop developing it using their "free" whatever it is, aka. F*** You, gimmie the goods so I can make a product and sell it to the masses for a profit .

Makes me remember why I stopped developing programs. At least I got what I consider to be a perfect version v0.17 of the software before it was taken down (probably for good).

Back to the drawing board A_C, but thanks for your efforts none the less.

But I think you are missing the point of open source. Someone lets you use their libraries for free - something that they coded themselves. All they ask in return is that you do the same and contribute your code to the community for others to build on in the same way. I truly appreciate A_C's work and maybe I don't understand what's going on here but if he chose not to abide by the terms under which the libraries were provided to him free of charge then he ought to use different code. You can't use some open source software to create something new and then close it off. That isn't how open source works.

If I'm missing the point please tell me but it seems like he is just re-doing things to be legit with the terms of the GPL.

Well yeah if someone rips it off then they are obviously breaking the agreement as well. I know A_C is a good coder and wrote some amazing apps that I totally appreciate. He did it freely and that's awesome. I just figure that to build on free open source software you ought to let others build on yours as well.

Neodorian.... once again I am using your post as a starting point. You are quite correct in your points (again...well worded), but this supposed 'Miss E' never stated WHO she was, WHY she was there, or any type of substance to her posts other than the rules of that code....which anyone can look up. Our biggest beef with her was the calous, rude, unprofessional way she went about it. If she had taken a writing lesson from you it may have ended differently, or even better...taken it up with A_C one-on-one.....To be quite honest, if I was attacked like A_C was, I would have done the same thing he did just our of spite to her!! She never proved her cause, so why should he have giver her all his work instead of closing shop and starting from scratch?

Granted the codes ruled said he should have shared, but he claimed he missed that point, and if he did or not isn't the point, she went about it in an entirely wrong way!!!

I should have RTFA. I essentially just shot off my mouth here and at xda after reading the most recent pages of the relevant threads. Hopefully things come to a good solution for everyone involved. I just wish people would realize that GPL isn't like some bogus proprietary licensing crap. It's a great way for the creators of code or anything else to benefit from building on those who came before them and letting others build off of them. The only reason there is a license in place is to prevent people from getting greedy and writing commercial software based off of that which was freely given. Let those assholes deal with licensing issues based on their abuse. That shouldn't get in the way of the legitimate community like the one here.
