Uninstall not working
I would not recommend installing this on your ppc unless you are ok with doing a hard reset - i can't find any easy solution to uninstall this app - in the forums on their web site when asked how to uninstall their reply was "Uninstall already. What where the reasons to uninstall? I like to know so we can get an idea of where things aren't right." Hey - just tell people how to uninstall it if you ever want people to try using it again. The Add/Remove programs button doesn't work, pretty obvious there's some major issues with this app.

is there a way to close running programs on this thing or change the colors?

Uninstall PointUI
Under programs/Update Manager there is an option to uninstall. Has anybody sucessfully uninstalled this program by using this option?

PointUI S2U
How do you lock and unlock under PointUI? My phone shows a lock status - cannot change that state - yet everything seems to be unlocked. How is thi activated and what does it do. My phone has always had all buttons locked except for the power button.

PointUI - A Brand New Interface for the WM6
WISHING EVERYONE A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR.
I have been using my first Windows Mobile [HTC Touch AKA ELF] for about 6 months now and at times was disappointed by the UI of it. Inspite of being "TOUCH" it was never touch friendly i had to pull out the stylus to make my way through it. Then came a revolution to the usability of the touch. It was the "PointUI". It is a pretty neat and most importantly "TOUCH FRIENDLY" interface for my Touch. PROS: - Easy to use - Touch friendly - Lighting fast - Low of resource consumption [particulatly good for the initial ELF devices with only 64MB RAM] CONS: - Not much configuration options available in the initial release - Lacks the basic task manager functionality [even though it shows the list of the running apps - there is no way you can stop them. The only way is go to the traditional task manager or memory settings to stop/terminate the apps] - The close button on the applications always minimizes them rather than using the setting in the default task manager of minimizing/closing them. I have been using it for only a couple of hours now. You can download it from http://www.pointui.com. I would rate it as a must UI and will look towards it being the default shell for the WM future releases. Thanks a lot to all of you behind it. Had read of couple of posts about it where uninstalling is not clean and does not revert the device back to its pre-installation state - but i am not uninstalling it - just close it if you dont like it. |
the mods just merged 85 threads about this app. search before you post.

mmm. i am always hungry, and this looks delicious, but i am not in the mood for something bittersweet right now. maybe their next batch will be tastier.

For those saying you can't close apps with this all you have to do is click the title of the app up top. The menu pops up and Force Quit is the first option. I don't think they put that in the help video, though. Some apps don't close, however, particularly Phone.
|
Its really ugly, not customizable (for appearance), and hijacks your phone the way AOL used to hijack your desktop pc.
Lets hope Bill Gates has a better plan than this crapola. I just hope MS doesnt get wrapped up in the hoopla of the i-friggin-phone interface. Comparing a loaded pocket pc like the Mogul to an i-f-phone is like comparing a calculator to excel |
I think its pretty nice! I mean, as always, it is not a complete shell replacement so it still feels funny because its really just an overlay over Windows Mobile. But this is pretty cool! IMO this is what it needs:
1. Custom Wallpaper and Collor Theme (just because) 2. The middle part where the weather, tasks, clocks are, should be able to display today plugins (also should be able to have more than one plugin per "slide") Almost like a pocket plus but with slides instead of tabs 3. #2 would solve this. It needs a better app launcher. or an App Launcher "slide" That would pretty much make it usable by anyone, it would become a Top Bar and Today screen replacement. And then after that, if they are really abitious over there, they should have the app take over email and sms and also include a phone dialer. |
its pretty decent actually...few tweaks here and there tho, overall i like it
|
Just tried it out, froze up on me and I couldn't exit it because it took over my phone and I couldn't access any other programs to terminate it.
Overall it seems polished for what is there, but at the same time there is a lot of stuff lacking (like customization.. and I'm not talking complete overhall, just something as simple as changing some options of the way it operates) Trying to uninstall it now, will probably watch this to see if improvements are made. :( edit: also the scrolling is not intuitive and none of my hardware buttons work when inside the app which really defeats the purpose of having something like this |
how to make pocket informant default calendar

"My left softkey is now set to this "home" program, and I think I'll have to get a registry fix to fix it.
For an easy softkey fix download the softkey changer program. It allows an easy means to select any program for each of the softkeys and for those of you not using Vijays togglebaralpha (to remove the lower bar from the today screen), it also allows changing the text of each button to correspond to the program selected. you couldn't of said it any better. "Comparing a loaded pocket pc like the Mogul to an i-f-phone is like comparing a calculator to excel" OMG i love that |
So I take it I'm the only one on here who actually likes this app?
For a 1st time release it's not bad, sure there's improvements that can be made and they are working on it. I mean hell, not even 2 days after it was released they already updated it. |
I like it!
Yes, for a first release this is very good - IMO. Considering I tweak the heck out of things, I had this loaded on my Touch XL, with the weather configured in about 10 minutes. With that kind of "out of the box" ease, the developers certainly deserve huge credit. I do use an iPhone for day to day use, so I can tell you this is as close as I have come to a stylus free interface - without hours customizing with wisbar, SPB or grumps iphone flash program.
Keep up the good work guys! |

At the moment, though, it is quite limited in its capabilities. There's very little that you can do to customize it, and certain features (access to a Contacts list or a Dialer, for example) are glaring in their absence. I'm optimistic that these issues will all be addressed over time, and based on the responsiveness of the developers so far, it will probably be sooner rather than later. |
I approve and was impressed

It runs very well on my 700wx, though installed on a stock ROM Mogul with no Tweaks I was surprised at how sluggish the animation was (then again, not really as I'm generally underwhelmed by the Mogul as a whole). Amongst all the "free" apps out there, it's quite good and development on it is just starting. In a forum like PPCGeeks, where everyone is customizing and tweaking till no end, such a currently limited program won't go over as well, but for basic users it's definitely on the right track and simplifies basic operations, imo. You can also assign your preferred apps (calendar, music player, etc) by doing some simple reg tweaks for now. It was all detailed on their site:  http://forums.pointui.com/viewtopic.php?t=136 |
i really like this. Using 1.01b
pros 1) fast 2) great interface 3) compatible with s2u2 4) pretty ;) 5) new and different 6) i like the force quit option for progs 7) works well in both portrait and landscape Cons 1) takes a little to get used to it (counter intuative motions) 2) . . . i have not tried to uninstall yet. but i will be getting a new phone tomorrow (13th phone) so it wont be a problem if i need to Hard reset |
PointUI - anyone use it?
Just curious if anyone uses this.
I got it last night and I actually like it a lot - dumped HTC Home, as a matter of fact, and my device seems to be much quicker since doing that. The only thing is that I can't figure out how to easily force-close programs with PointUI and I will send a suggestion to them to add a task manager or a press-and-hold X to close option... I also don't like the blue. I need to figure out how to change this to another color. But for an early release, it seems to be pretty stable and it does a fairly good job masking the ugly WM UI down beneath. |

its working fine for me, no problems so far. i really like the change in UI. but i hate the blue theme, it would be nice if there was some sort of option for a theme change or even use a background picture. as mentioned prev. i also hate the fact that i have to go through a few menus in order to really close runing apps. but besides that it's a nice welcome change. no lag on the phone.
|
I feel it limits the phone... its annoying to me... but it does look nice
|
I love it... I am standing beside this and can't wait for it to become even better! Everything else is crap. I like the blue. I am usually biased towards black but the blue has grown on me.
|
to quit the apps
you just press and hold the name of the app while you are in it and up comes a list to force quit |
to quite apps
you just press and hold the name of the app while you are in it and up comes a list to force quit |
Thank you.
Looks like you don't even need to hold, just press. Works great. |
Nice One.......
Well I've just installed this on an SPV M3100 (TyTN) and apart from only one of the hardware buttons now work, the rest is the bee's knees.
No probs, runs smoothly, all functions are working, apps completly close through it's own task manager (touch and hold app title bar), weather loads up (even my own small toen in northwest Leicestershire. UK is there) All in all I would give 7.5 out of 10, could do with dailer, maybe photodialer app. quick access to the most popular features but that will all come with customisation at a later date. Cant wait for the next version, well done to the guys and gals @ POINTUI :headbang: |
Okay so I've decided that the lock on this is better than S2U2. Its not as customizable but I also don't notice the battery drain either.

OK when I said everything seemed to be working, it was, now most controls seem to default to text message screen ](*,) don't know why. It happened after I did a soft restart, I then had to re-activate the program which created these issues. |

Installed and ended up having to do a hard reset. I think it was clashing with my WA3 at startup maybe?? When I soft resetted, it went thru the normal screens, sprint, winmobile blah blah and just went to a black screen. Didnt respond to hardware buttons, light did come on n go off when I plugged and unplugged the charger. But of course I backed up everything before I installed it. I like the menu ui except the fact that the scrolling is backwards. If I could get that to work with my iPhone theme, I'd love it. I'll be watching over this
