It shows tremendous promise, but it's not very useful today. It isn't at all customizable, so if you want to use anything other than the default options, you're stuck. In addition, it has a lot of bugs when installed on the Mogul. The "phone" icon doesn't work at all, some of the other options cause problems too. It disables most of the hardware buttons, so those stop working when it's running. Lots of little nagging problems, lots of room for additional flexibilty. It's going to be a nice app, but it's not there yet.

No customization, weather doesn't work, phone icon locks phone, a few other issues. Would love more customization.

Sweet, Gonna Try This Now! Video Looks Appetizing!

initial 12-31-2007 09:47 PM

After trying it I decided that it's a promising program and only that. The lack of customization is probably the biggest turn off. HTC Home does everything this program does and more except HTC Home is not finger friendly.

With due time this UI will emerge, right now it's just eyecandy.

pdathekid 12-31-2007 11:51 PM

thats the beta..the official one drops at 12 i believe

I have two of them - coupe and convertible. Recently installed a new engine in my convertible and am going to reinstall the after market turbo soon. Love these cars...

I think this app is pretty sweet. The exe file installs from the desktop and handled everything for my 6700. This runs MUCH faster than any of the cube variations I have tried (when I had WM5 and now WM6), and the gesture recognition is much improved. The primary caveat I have is that they did not account for the length of the "verizon wireless" that runs across the top of most screens, sure telus or at&t fits, but it runs into the clock, or other icons on the home screen.

This has given me a great first impression. Certainly a WIP but a welcome alternative.

No, the official first release became available yesterday (actually, it was probably New Year's Day in Australia). That's the one that we've all been talking about on the "Home" thread. It's a very cool app, but it's really not ready for prime time yet. There's a lot of work yet to be done. At the moment, it's buggy and very limited in flexibility.

pdathekid 01-01-2008 11:13 AM

yeah i tried it..it wasnt super responsive

hopefully they fix it soon..it looks promising.

Well I've been playing with this program since last night and I defineatly think this program has a ton of potential. Here are my pro's and con's.

Pro's:
- Great interface - Smoothe scrolling (from my experience others may differ), integrates very well.
- "Ribbon" system used for things like tasks, calenders, clocks, etc. so you have half screen size rograms that you swipe across to view
- Launcer bar at bottom of screen is useful.
- Built in sliding unlocker

Con's:
- Most hardware buttons disabled. To use you have to go back to today screen.
- Program does not close running programs. To close them you have to go to Down Arrow > Currently Running > Click on program name > Click Force Close > Then it takes you back to the Today screen. VERY ANNOYING
- Finger scrolling system is counter intuitive
- Locker will not turn on automatically.
- Not customizable - Can't change background, default programs (ie. Windows Media Player)

Overall I think this is program WILL be very great and the dev's have done a fantastic job for a 1.0 release. For me it's still not user friendly / customizable enough to use it as my home screen. I do look forward to new releases and I'm really excited to see something innovative like this.

Yay 4 Juggs 01-01-2008 12:39 PM

i tried it last night wasnt impressed with its lack of customization and its total dominance of ram...after uninstalling it i noticed it totally hijacked my left soft button space where sms resided...even after uninstall it was still there...have to remove it via total commander or resco explorer from the startup folder then had to reinstall your threaded sms to so sms could take its righful place on my today screen in association with the left soft key. it looks nice in theory but as the saying goes you can paint a piece of poo all shiney and gold but its still a piece of poo. thats just my opinion and i could be wrong.

Fresh2Death 01-01-2008 01:01 PM

well.... i installed it on my 6700 and found it to be very user friendly once i figured out how to use everything. i give this program 2 thumbs and cant wait for the updates.

[sammich] 01-01-2008 01:01 PM

Yea... I saw this yesterday. I must admit I got a little wet down there... (jk)

Thanks stroths for the cabbed version. Did you use universal extractor? or just get it from the \Program Files\Microsoft Activesync. =] Cabs are so much better than the AS installation, dont you agree?

Anyways.... trying it now

[sammich] 01-01-2008 01:13 PM

Im watching the the first tour on my phone as we speak...

Mine is actually very responsive, and it is working perfectly.

This is a KEEPER!

Im just hoping that this thing will have some amazing skins!

How is it not super responsive? This app is amazingly fast for what it does.

Here ya Juggs, same thing happened to me. Royal pain after I thought it was uninstalled. The idea seems sound but way tooo many bugs

Universal extractor didn't work well on the exe, so I just got it from \Program Files\Microsoft Activesync

storino03 01-01-2008 03:34 PM

I have it on my Touch and it works great. Aside from not being able to use some of the hardware keys on my phone, and all other PPCs, I like it a lot. With the 70MB of free ram on the Touch, a little memory hog is not a concern anymore.

PointUI

Just installed this about 2 hours ago. Seems to work ok except for..
1 - No notice of new voice message.
2 - Better help needed on some options.
On the plus side:
1 - I like the use of the icons on the top bar (data links for example).
2 - Phone answer/ignore hardware buttons work.
3 - Used LED Killer to fix #1 above (also works on missed calls).
4 - Weather is working for me (have it set to update every 4 hours).
(will probably change that to something less often or manaula update only)

Will keep looking for an update but I *might* use it as it is for right now.

Just my $0.02,

Well know how to remove that dam Home key that pinded itself to my left softkey....? i unistalled it and deleted all the propper files and still nothing....

i tryed this and the app is pretty responsive and rather good..its just that ure not able to customize it .like color etc....

codyppc 01-01-2008 04:58 PM

i just gotta try everything dont i. well i like change but this is one i just dont know is worth it. i fell as if i am taking extra steps getting to the stuff i need.

i do think they did better than the spb mobile shell overlay of the os. i did like spb's "now screen" better though.

uninstalling it now as well. we'll see if i miss it.

Epyon9283 01-01-2008 05:54 PM

Well I'm pissed. It changed the softkey on the home screen from calendar to home. When I uninstalled it, the key changed to Phone. Wonderful. I'm never ever installing this POS again. Never going to recommend anyone else does either.

Spencer_Moore 01-01-2008 06:01 PM

i know i had to hard reset after locked up my phone

pg2k3 01-01-2008 06:18 PM

Ill try this when I get home from work today. Ill back my sys registry up just in case.

So why not change it back to Calendar if that's what you what it to show as?

OffUrRcker 01-01-2008 07:10 PM

haha pdx are you serious? A registry edit is practically surgery, epyon has neither the tools nor the steady hand for a procedure like that..

Google "change softkey," n00b... It's a simple registry edit. "Never installing the software again because it didn't change his softkey back for him perfectly.."
:]

acarnut 01-01-2008 07:17 PM

I tried it as I'm installing the updated ROMs to my CDMA Touch shortly.

A nice work-in-progress. It lacks a 'today' page, where you can see outstanding messages, tasks, appointments, etc, and the dialer was broken - if it had a dialer. A matching rltoday skin for the WM6 today page and for the dialer would go nicely with this (plus a lot of bug hunting).

It also messed with the Touch camera and vol hardware buttons.

And it appears to have erased 1.5 gigs of stuff from my SD card... curiously, only the subdirs were deleted, and the half dozen MP3s on the root are intact. The subdirs were only for copies of MP3s and CAB files, so the only thing lost was the CAB for this application, which I had downloaded directly.

Definatly *not* for those not prepared to be on the 'bleeding' edge of software development.

On the other hand, this looks like a good calling card for developers if they are looking to attact Mr Bill's attention and get a wedge in the door to the new WM7 UI.

Ouhei 01-01-2008 07:59 PM

EXTREMELY well put together but it feels so disconnected from the rest of the phone, going into contacts or opening programs feels like it takes a lot more effort than with the traditional today screen.

I'll keep tinkering with it to see, but if they continue to develop this it will be a must have for sure.

btw, you can fix the sliding motions in the settings.

Zyphlin 01-01-2008 10:42 PM

This is definitely something to build upon, but right now I just can't get into it.

First off, I can't stand products that take over my phone. My left softkey is now set to this "home" program, and I think I'll have to get a registry fix to fix it. On top of that, I uninstalled the program in "remove programs" and yet its still there, and the soft key is still there.

I can't seem to get the weather program working. I have full bars, but I keep getting warning signs popping up as it tries to get data, and then it fails. Occasionally it will succeed, but unless I succeeded in every previous attempt in that route it won't give me the actual info. (IE, lets say I get US, Virginia, and then hit H for my town and that fails. It will send me back to letters. I hit H and it works this time, but suddenly I'm picking from a random letter with international cities all over like Paris).

The lack of skinning is a bit of an annoyance as well and makes it something I just won't be able to use right now due to my care for how my phone looks. I click on any program and suddenly my bottom bar is black and white, my top bar looks completely different. So I'd need to change my whole theme.

Finally, the scrolling is really counter intuitive compared to what I found when I first started using my Touch.

Its got great flow to the program, and I would love to have a simple today theme that was able to flow like it does. It has a lot to build upon...if it was more fully customizable or able to run in a normal WM setting with WM's top and bottom bars, that would maybe make it more useful to me.
