what the heck is opera waiting for. when is Opera Mobile 9 coming out?

First, Opera mobile 8.65 is TERRIBLE (by 2008 standards). it was good several years ago, but hasn't improved much in a long time.
What even more annoying is that they keep bragging about it being the best windows mobile web browser. Convenient to not compare with safari.
What disappointing is that even opera mini is better, and yet works on any old phone. It's faster, more stable, uses less memory, has zoom capabilities, compresses data etc..

The worst news is that Android (which will probably be amazing) also is going to use Safari (well, it'll use their own browser, but it's based on the same rendering engine as safari, the open source WEBKIT), so basically, either opera gets its act together, or screw them.

I'm pretty much already decided on jumping ship the second a phone comes out with android, but a decent web browser would help the time go by that much quicker.

Isn't it ridiculous that my Mogul is no better at browsing the web than my old Samsung A900. Same res. screen, and mini is better than mobile.
If i load up 2 tabs in opera mobile (with any sort of pictures), it uses ALL my moguls memory, and runs to a crawl

what are your thoughts?

i know safari isn't on windows mobile, i'm just saying that they're only comparing against windows mobile browsers, when the truth is, the web browser is SO important that it does/should affect the device people buy.
my brother bough an iPhone JUST because of safari

What i'm saying is that opera doesn't seem to consider safari a competitor (cause if they did, they'd have to admit defeat), and aren't hurrying up with opera mobile 9.
if only safari was released....

it's unfortunate that opera is being like microsoft. They both only release updates when there is competition (ie7 because of firefox etc,.)

Opera's competition on WM is Netfront.

Since NF has soo many technical releases its practically free. Try it. Not asclean looking as Opera but all of the features are there + ex.

i emailed opera about 2 weeks ago and asked about this. they said they MIGHT be looking to release something in q1 next year. the iphone browser really made them delay it. they want it to be superior or equal to it. so they are hard at work. i rather them delay and make a bette product than rush it and have a lackluster one

i'd rather at least they released an interim product.
having NOTHING comparable until 8 months after safari is not acceptable
they should have released something a few months ago using the open 9 rendering engine, and then their best stuff in Q1

Tried all these other browsers,Id rather lose the zoom option and be able to open the most secure pages.Ive moved big money in the comfort of my bed via Opera, safely and securely. I hope Opera doesnt compromise itself just to look pretty.

This is the word from Opera regarding OM 9:

Quote:
A global mobile phone manufacturer will begin pre-installing Opera Mobile 9 on their Windows Mobile phones sometime during the first half of 2008. In addition, Opera Mobile 9 will be featured on UIQ platform. UIQ is used in mobile phones from Sony Ericsson, Motorola, BenQ and Arima
