I actually am trying to do this exact thing (though not for the same reason as you). I use wmwifirouter as my primary internet access....and I've recently got a new Dell M6400 from work and the IT dept seems to have secured up a few features wirelessly so now it is impossible for me to connect to adhoc networks (which is what wmwifirouter uses). I can connect to structured wifi networks w/ out any problem.

I just bought a trendnet 300 MBPS Wireless N Access Point from Amazon...got it today. (Somehow I got it for $29.99) My hope is to have it repeat the adhoc network from wmwifirouter as a structured network so I can continue to utilize the app w/ the new laptop. I know this hardware is capable of operating in repeater mode....but I can't even install the software to run it w/ out plugging it into a wireless router. I believe that I will be able to (token) connect it to a friends router to get the software installed and then put it in repeater mode using the mac address from my phone (not sure how to find this)....not sure if it is possible actually.....but the manual seems to indicate that these settings can be manipulated manually once the software is installed.

Plenty of good reviews on similar access point hardware from trendnet on Amazon...operating in repeater mode. Just going to have to work out the details. Please provide any thoughts and ideas and I'll try to implement on my side to make this work.

Re: Wmwifirouter Help

Think I may have found a helpful solution in another post. The first response on this page has a link to a tutorial using DD-WRT firmware (which my access point hardware should be able to use) and it sounds like it would prob be exactly what I need (not for sure yet....just browsed over it....have to check it out this weekend).
