Where are all the Cool Apps at?
I have a friend who just got a Droid unit and it seems like every day he comes up with what's considered some cool, neato app. He found a scanner program that will link up to a bargain price website, today he was showing me an app that will listen to music
![]() I'm really not jealous of his droid, but it just got me wondering where all these things are for our Windows Mobile ![]() ![]() |

Re: Where are all the Cool Apps at?
also wm has been, and will prob always be a pro device. it's main functions and design were for bizz not as much for play. android and iphone are for everyday mindless users while wm is more complex. developers aim for the masses market.... more money.
openmarket and market place has a list of things, but not all that are avail. try google searching device specific apps, an app you would like to have wm, free ppc cabs, and free wm cabs. there are way more apps for wm, just not in a single app store. also try other sites like xda-devolopers.com everythingdiamondtouchpro.info windowspowerusers.com or do a google search for wm forums and ppc forums. apps are out there, just requires searching

The main reason why we dont have as many apps comes down to market execution and app distribution. Like them or not, Apple hit it out of the park with the App store for both users and developers. It was very easy for developers to focus just on creating the apps. They didn't have to worry about the high cost of marketing and getting their apps distributed. It's no mistake Android followed with their own marketplace. Microsoft tried with their own marketplace but it was a bit too late and not widely accepted... In their next OS, they are banking heavily on the Zune marketplace for app distribution. Last edited by x10guy; 03-16-2010 at 12:50 PM. |

I'm not an Apple fanboy. If I was I'd be sporting an iPhone. I just saw the statement quoted at the top and it's just a load of crap. Bottom line is...almost any program that exists for WinMo has an Apple App that can at least match it. So, how is it that WinMo is more professional? Don't get me wrong, I 'LOVE' my WinMo, but Apple has Apps for Accounting, Medical Fields, Musicians, Lawyers/Law & Criminal Justice, Ad Agencies, Stock Brokers, Nuclear Physicists, Marine Biologists, Chemists, Geographers..etc. I guess people in these professions that sport an iPhone are mindless, though... :/ Actually, I will be switching to Android once we can get our hands on the HTC EVO 4G....lol

Re: Where are all the Cool Apps at?
Just got my TP2 last week, and some apps I've already found. All my links are at home, so just google the app names.
Music detection Midomi (I've tried and works) Shazam (paid app through winmo Marketplace. Haven't tried) Changescreen - gets the accelerometer working for everything, even Sense so you can use in landscape with the keyboard closed. Barcode checking Barcorama - you can take a snapshot of the barcode. It searches on google, though I think you can send it to other sites. Kinda touchy, but fun to play with. FastPriceCheck - a website. You can download an app. You can manually type in a UPC and it'll search some shopping sites. G-Trigger - shake your phone to perform functions or start aps. Tele-Sketsa - Draw on the screen with your finger or stylus. Can then send to someone as a MMS. ShootMe! - Sound effects tied to the accelerometer. Crack a whip. Wield a lightsaber. Shoot a gun. etc. Navicomputer - downloads open source maps to your phone that can be used offline. It doesn't give turn by turn instructions, but can be used to create paths and trails. If you really want an iPhone style app, I ran across a paid fart app out there, but didn't bother download. ![]() |

There's a free version and a paid version. The free version is limited to 4 ID's per month.
