Seamless Exchange and sync capabilities, all the fit and finish of HTC TouchFLO/Sense, tethering, all the constant tinkering options available, custom ROMs, stable OS (with a properly tweaked custom ROM of course), some specific programs like G-Profile, PowerSMS etc, ability to do real multitasking with full control using task managers and app switching etc, the list goes on.

Android is still a fledgling OS and there is no doubt about it. Someone described the overall user experience on Android as "fragmented" and I couldn't agree more. It's coming along extremely fast though and I'm sure that soon enough I'll be switching over, it's just a matter of time. I doubt WinMo 7 is going to do anything to shake this up unfortunately. In the meantime though, WinMo is doing it for me more than the vanilla 2.1 Android. I predict that my if in a few months there comes along a Snapdragon Android handset with similar form factor like the N1 with Sense built in to it and a few versions further of Android, my upcoming HD2 will probably get traded in. This should be no later than the end of 2010.

The voice input on Android 2.1 is bar none though.. Now I know why they started testing voice transcriptions on GVoice so long ago and asking our input on when it was useful and when it wasn't. Good game Google!

I desperately need for a solid dictation app to be pushed out for winmo and preferably free... it really is a no brainer that this is missing from winmo's feature set

MS has voice recognition in it's Bing Mobile app that works just fine, I'm sure they can bring it to WinMo 7. I just hope that they actually do.

I'm looking for something beyond voice recognition that actually transcribes dictated speech into text. I'm an author and blogger and it would speed up my creative process infinitely if I could just speak my thoughts instead of typing them all the time... it works well in the bing app I just need a winmo app that does it across the board.

I hear ya, that's exactly what I'm looking for too. And this is exactly the functionality that exists on the Nexus One with Android 2.1. I just meant that I know MS has the technology available, it just needs to be available system-wide in all text fields instead of just in 1 app like Bing Mobile or TellMe.

Yep, I linked to a similar video in the 1st post of this thread. I've used it myself on the Nexus One and it works really well.

I was using the Diamond before I got my Hero and the Hero does almost all of what you are wanting and more. The ROM's that are being built are better than any WinMo ROM I have ever used. With that being said the Hero is going to be getting an update to 2.1 with Sense already on it. This will also give us in theory the voice transcription. Just giving you some info that you may or may not have known about.

Interesting. When you say it does almost all of those things, what would you say it doesn't do? And what's the "more" stuff that it does?

I'm sure with Sense, it has most of the fit and finish of TouchFLO/Manila etc. Here are some questions though:

-Does it sync properly with Exchange (email, calendar, tasks) while still supporting sync with the Google cloud?
-Does it sync directly with Outlook? I think this is a no.
-Does it do WinMo style smart dial from the dialer where you can bring up the dialpad and just use that to start typing the letters of your contact's name and it finds them intelligently?
-Is there support for text message scheduling? Or an app for this?
-Is there support for backing up text messages to PC for plain text reading? Or just plain backup even?

If the answer to most of these is yes, then I just might consider giving skipping over the HD2 I've been waiting for and give Android a longer shot. The only other problem is pretty basic apps without much attention to UI etc, but that should be picking up pretty rapidly with Android hopefully.

Re: Proper Speech to Text in ALL text fields

is it 100% certain that this speech to text feature is in fact native to android 2.1 and not just on the nexus one?

Well I know for a fact it can back up texts, it can sync directly with outlook using companionlink...and active sync also...the 2.1 version does include smart dial as its not a winmo dialpad, its an htc dialpad...only thing im not sure about on that list is text scheduling as I havent fooled with that on my girls phone yet.
