As far as I know, there is no -mode: automatic. But I found that if you launch or link directly to the .exe (not using a shortcut), the album opens in the orientation you're in.

Well again the shortcut I posted is the Cameraalbum.exe direct shortcut, you replace the one you have in \windows\start menu and it will do, when you are in landscape mode it will open as landscape if you are in portrait mode it will open in portrait.
