Perhaps a working thermal sensor, somehow hacking the functions of the IR port, so that it acts like one of those thermometers you can point at an object, and tell how hot or cool it is.

IR ports are pretty much a thing of the past. I haven't seen one since the HTC Titan/Kaiser days, at least not on HTC devices.
