the ftp.

I know, I know... which ftp?
I'm going to organize all the relevant info and write a step by step when I have some time. Too busy to deal with it at the moment.

Click on QLINKS on the nav bar, and then click on Open FTP Site. Just navigate around and you'll find lots of things there... just be careful with what you download as anyone can upload there.

Colonel's ROM (10/10)

Colonel put a new ROM up tonight on his ftp.
Anyone know what's different?

Shaska 10-11-2007 02:57 AM

Did he put any .txt files in this one? I know the Oct2 rom had one, but the Oct7 one did not... :S

blankd3ckskat3r 10-11-2007 07:44 AM

whats the name of it on his ftp

Krayziepop 10-11-2007 08:56 AM

Try Oct10_RUU_signed.rar... the naming convention is not difficult.

Krayziepop 10-11-2007 09:05 AM

I think the reason he hasn't yet is because its likely he doesn't want EVERYBODY to be flashing this rom right now. It's kind of a beta thing, where you get to guess the changes - but you can be sure if colonel updates it, he is doing it for good reason. I have been happy with all of his custom work so far. :D

Just think if everybody started flashing this... the gurus here would be up to their elbows in "Why doesn't this work?" and "You BRICKED my PHONE! OMGWTFTUNACASSEROLE!" I am sure once the process is streamlined a bit more, he will feel more comfortable with more public information. Till then only the 4ard[0r3 and d3d1c@t3d need apply... :p

colonel 10-11-2007 10:00 AM

These are all just test roms. That is why there is no writeup or real support for them. If you want to try them and know how, feel free. I am working on a simple way to create a change log, but right now I don't even remember.

Now, if you dont like different programs in your rom, they can all be disabled to the point where you would never know they are there. Hell, you probably dont even realize how many apps come with a "clean" rom that you never use. Again, having this apps included does not take up any of your usable space. If you dont want them, just disable them. If this is still a problem, dont flash custom roms.

soundworkspr 10-11-2007 10:35 AM

Hey colonel thanx for the birthday gift i was getting tired of the alltel logo popping up everytime a soft reset but no biggie this is going to be my first rom i test from u so i leave u any feed back on how it works if that of any good use to you take care guys and gals

blankd3ckskat3r 10-11-2007 11:37 AM

so colonel..what exactly is on the new rom? how much ram is free on bootup?

playdeep 10-11-2007 11:41 AM

Is this a 3,5 rom ? i loved the last one....or is it a baked rom for wm6 (that has apps built into the rom of course )? Colonel, if this is a wm6 version of your last 3.5 rom sign me up. That 3.5 was killer. great apps choices too.

What about the splash screens? Your lightning bolt thing is cool (even though it hung my device the first 2 times until I did a hard reset), so I don't mind holding onto that. Very Jerry Bruckheimer of you.

But the opening screen with the purple Titan text and the following black windows wallpaper with the 80's style tech font that says "Loading" is just too cheesy looking for me. I work in graphic design and I try to give everything I customize a polished graphic look. (I'd hate it if any of my coworkers saw my phone reboot!)
Any chance I could render some images to take their place for you? Or perhaps, could you have a version that leaves the stock splash screens(they're not pretty, but at least they don't look custom built)?

Or, is changing that very simple and I just didn't know about it?

Also, why does it skip the first boot screens after a hard reset where it aligns the screen and sets the time? These are things we end up having to do anyway (my alignment was off at first until I realized that I have never set it on your ROM), and I live in an eastern standard time zone. I figured it was probably just to avoid the short start tutorial (cut & paste, etc...), but the rest of that stuff is useful and we have to go into settings and do it manually which takes just as much time.
Just my opinion.

If you don't like the splash screens, those are easily editable, just use nbhextract to dump out the splash screen, and gennbh to generate new ones.

If you don't like the alignment thing, just realign from settings. One of the annoying things about wm is that you have to practice copy n pasting and alignment.

If you are too lazy / ignorant to do any of these, don't flash a custom TEST rom.

Its not a matter of being lazy / ignorant, its just that aligning the screen and setting the region is something that we have to do manually ANYWAY, so it doesn't seem silly to force you to sit through it on a hard reset. It takes just as much time to do it yourself as it does to click and hold cut, paste, and the next button a few times. I do hate the cut/paste tutorial, though...

Thanks in advance.

I found info on nbhextract, but where does one find gennbh?

dishe 10-12-2007 12:30 PM

OK, his new ROM is a bit of an improvement over the last one in start-up time, although that could just be my perception.
Things I noticed right away:
5-button HTC home plugin is included now (nice) as well as the HTC Touch dialer and comm manager (which were there last time).
Pic/Vid messaging is included now presumed from alltel rom, but doesn't work as is. I didn't try to set it up, I had bad experience with it freezing my messaging app in the past.

Java has been removed.

Free ram on boot: 24mb!

I played with it for a little bit, and generally liked it, but I don't care for PIE+, and I can't remove it, plus the lack of Java is a problem for me too.
so, going back to Alltel...

So wait are you saying that the java app that comes standard on the mogul has been removed in his new room version (which would mean you could install it if you want) or are you saying that with this new rom i could not even install or run any java applications...sorry if this is a stupid question but im kinda confused. I was gonna flash the new rom but if you are saying no java apps can run on this rom then this rom would be of no use to me. One of my fav apps is the gmail app which only works in the java content manager app.

I noticed the Alltel Rom didn't have Java support .... So I copied the Java files from the Sprint Rom windows directory from the Mogul to my PC .... After I flashed the Rom I put them back on the Mogul in windows directory ...

Now Java and Opera Mini works just like before .... All my other Java apps still work also

thanks for the quick response...if you dont mind can you tell me what files in need to copy for the java support before i flash the rom. thanx

betulike2know 10-12-2007 03:10 PM

I copied :
java (This one is the shortcut) .... you need to put a shortcut in your start menu
joedek
joedek.exe
jeodek-help

The appdb file in the windows directory is where Java stores your Java apps ( gmail, opera mini, etc.) so copy that entire file.

thanks..i figured those were the files just wanted to make sure...
but guess what? i think i just messed my phone up...well not really but sorta...its stuck on this screen with multi color stripes..
i ran that unlocker utility...i read up on it and they said at some point the application will ask you for a rom to use....it didnt...the whole process went thru and then it said...its done...ur device is ready to use. If it is stuck on the olipro screen simply flash a new rom...lol...i thought what i was doing in the first place with the unlocker was flashing the rom lol
DAMN

betulike2know 10-12-2007 03:35 PM

Get intouch with Imcokeman or one of the pros on here they can help you get out of that ... or Read the Im stuck in bootloader post there's some things you can download to get you back on track...

first read this short thread... http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=9782

that will tell you you need to put the nbh in the ruu folder before you run the ruu itself.

second... it sounds as if you have already flashed the rom over to the phone but are still stuck in the bootloader. with the device still attached
to pc run the 'exit bootloader program. you can find it here... ftp://ppcgeeks:ezupload@ftp.ppcgeeks...tan_exitbl.rar

just extract the file somewhere on your pc and run it.

good luck and hope this helps, cody

i downloaded the file frm the ftp area the newest one he put up on the 10th. I Then extracted the file. I ran the unlocker...at no point did it even give me the option to choose any room to flash. The whole process completed and i was at the oilpro screen. I then did some research and find a comment that some guy name ikcokeman (or something like that said) and according to him you needed to put the nbh file inot the ruu folder. so i downloded his ruu.rar file extracted it ran it with the NBH file in the folder and it was installing it. When done it said update unsuccessful there is a corruption in your file (something like that). I did it again...same shit. Thinking maybe it was the file i deleted it and downloaded again...same shit....so i tried one of his previous files (the one he put up on the 7th). Tried that one...same shit...i gave up and simply re-installed the sprint udate one that he also had in his ftp area and my phone just loaded (worked fine). So im obviously doing something wrong. pls help if you can.

jaytv 10-12-2007 05:54 PM

Negotiator,
File corrupt errors (270) at the 100% mark are normal with the colonel's roms for now...simply use the tool cody referenced above at the end of the flash, then a hard reset, and the new rom will be there and working fine...
I must say, however, that perhaps custom beta roms may be outside your comfort zone at this time...

thanks for the update....
just one more question...when i run the "titan_exitbl" which is the tool that cody talks about it keeps giving me this message about making sure active sync is disabled or that my usb is properly connected. makes no sense. obviously my usb is connected if it just finished updating the rom...and i have gone into windows task manager and ended the mobile sync center which is what vista uses...i went into the "process" tab and ended all the active sync and windows mobile stuff in there and im still gettting this message.I also tried the "uni_exitbootloader_180" and im getting the same message...i would appreciate any help thanx

yea i have no prob doing this...but here is the prob...i cant see my windows directory when my phone is connected to my pc (VISTA) even when i enable show hidden files....
so i just copied them on to my storage card and then copied them onto my pc...but guess wat?
the files are visibly on my storage card when looking at them on the phone...but when looking at my storage card on my PC those files dont exist lol....except the appdp folder. This is making no sense to me. So i just copied the folder i put those files in onto my pc and its still blank. If you cld help me figure that one out ill gladly put the files up

Thanx for the info...i cldnt not figure out how to get that "could not connect to usb port" message to stop showing so i ended up just using a friends laptop (Win XP) to run the "titan_exitbl" file, and it worked finally got out of that boot loader screen. Colonel the rom is great...runs great...feels like a new phone with this rom.
For anyone that has prob loading this rom its quite simply
1. Run the titan unlocker
2. It will most likely take you to the boot loader screen. Run the one of the programs available to get outta this ("uni_exitbootloader_180") if you do not wanna flash a new rom at this time, other wise simply run the Rom Utility Update (RUU) (with the new rom file to flash in the RUU folder). This will install the rom. If you are installing one of the beta roms from Colonel it might give you a 270 error message this is fine....just run the "titan_exitbl" and the phone will turn off. IF you keep getting a message about usb could not connect or something like that...disable USB connection in active sync...and if you have vista follow krayziepop instructions on how to solve this.
3. perform hard reset
4. And you are good to go

For anyone that wants java support on their phone you can download the java files uploaded by betulike2know and copy and paste them into you windows directory and you should be good to go.

I wrote this out cause this whole process was driving me crazy, figured it out and no one else should have to go thru such crazyness.

Enjoy the great rom

FYI: you can get the RUU file from the ftp area uder imcokeman's files. its called RUU.rar
