It isnt the radio. It is the crappy gps drivers. The only way for fast locks is agps which requires a data package

ok, have carefully followed the instructions to goback to stock rom and again have a phone that willnot retain the password for evdo connection! so cannot tell if agps would work or not.

Try "BroadbandAccess" (without the quotations).
