Re: GPS without network coverage?
i had GPS working on my alltel 6800 before i had service on it. all i did was upgrade to a GPS radio then build my rom. i started out with google maps but switched to garmin XT because i didnt want to pay for data. what nav program are you using or are you using it for something like geocaching?

Do you know what GPS settings did you have in your Alltel 6800? |

Re: GPS without network coverage?
have you updated to the newest firmware? it should be 5.xx. if not go to garmins site and download it. i could never get a lock with just running the older verison of XT. now all i need to do is fire up XT and less than a min i have a lock, no primer needed. as a side note when you up to 5.xx you can change the arrow to one of the pointers from the garmin garage. its pretty sweet.

Re: GPS without network coverage?
thats weird. i havent had any problems getting a lock with the 5.xx update. again, i would remove XT and reinstall it. also check your location settings. make sure you have it ON and not 911 only.

Re: GPS without network coverage?
I have actually succeeded at this very thing, as my Mogul does not have service anymore. I had the same problem initially, but I fixed it by disabling aGPS via EPST. Apparently the aGPS polling causes programs that access the GPS to fail to sync if aGPS is waiting for data from the cell radio that never comes. Garmin XT and TomTom7 both work flawlessly, with QuickGPS priming I get a lock in about 6-10 seconds.
