GPS without network coverage?

I've been trying for around a month to get the GPS work correctly on areas without network coverage but I am still running in circles.

Sometimes I get a lock in 10 seconds, sometimes in 30 seconds but most times I do not get a lock, even when the GPS picks around 8 sats.

Any tips? I really want to be able to use the GPS when there is no network coverage.

I am trying to get this done on my Titan and my Vogue.

Thanks in advance.

Re: GPS without network coverage?

You do not need carrier coverage for GPS. Cell towers and military sats are two totally different things and located in two far different places. You can turn your cell radio off and still do GPS also.

Thanks but I know that, please read my post: "Sometimes I get a lock in 10 seconds, sometimes in 30 seconds but most times I do not get a lock, even when the GPS picks around 8 sats."

There must be something I need to do to get the GPS working correctly and I need to figure out what it is.

are you priming the GPS? if yes, with what? GPS has nothing to do with cell coverage unless your using the AGPS fix. even then you dont NEED signal, it will just take a little longer to get a fix. who's your carrier?

I have tried the Holux GPS Viewer, HTC GPS Tool, BAF GPS Toogle, I always get the same result, when there is no coverage, it's very unlikely that I will get a lock, even if the GPS is picking 8 sats.

I just want to get the GPS working when there is no coverage, I mean, no AGPS at all.

Well, that's the point, none, I have no service on these phones now, both used to be Sprint phones but they have no service now.

So I want to be able to use the GPS correctly without cellular service.

Re: GPS without network coverage?

well provider has nothing to do with GPS, if you dont want to prime with data usage using a aGPS then I dont know what else to tell you. I cant explain why sometimes you can get a sat and sometimes you cannot or why sometimes it takes longer. I do know that when I was doing just GPS like you I would get the same results. Most of the time it would lock. It locked faster when I was more recently locked previously. At other times it would never get a lock even after I would reboot it once or twice. After waiting so long I would eventually give up. GPS for me on the device is something to play with bc I have a stand-alone GPS unit in my truck

I like the aGPS fix but I still can get a lock with standalone in 15 seconds.

i asked because if you were running vzn with the MR1 update you would have to jump through some hoops to get GPS to work correctly. instead of getting pissy, next time just answer the questions people ask that are trying to help you. my advise would be to delete everything and do a reinstall. that way you can start fresh.
