Re: new XV6800
well you should definitely upgrade to a custom rom. im running dcd's 3.3.4 with m2d, but nuerom runs great also. flash a rom before you roll back the pri, and i also recommend flashing radio 3.42.50. i get the best reception with it, but its all preference.
if your agps does not work after you upgrade, then roll back the pri. i updated my pri after flashing a custom rom, and ive seen some improved reception with it. |

Re: new XV6800
when you upgraded, did you have to use epst to recover you ESN or anything, or did it just go smooth for you? I'm going to be transitioning from an older pda to the 6800, and I believe I had seen in quite a few places that upgrading before doing the ESN switch saves you the grief of akey and data issues becuase the *228 sets it all to right when coming from a different phone..
Just like with my 6900, I hesitant to make that first flash only because I've read quite a few horror stories, but most of them are older from what I can see and I don't think apply to MR1 update. It's my understanding, as you stated here, that just unlocking the phone with the 2.47 bootloader is all I have to do before flashing the first custom rom. |

Re: new XV6800
This is what I hate about verizon - jacksplat just got a "brand new" top of the line verizon PDA phone and it's already been declared "End of Life" or obsolete by other carriers. On top of that, they still want $350 for it. Verizon hasn't even announced the touch pro yet.
JS at least you have the benefit of getting it now when there are a lot of good custom ROM's that upgrade or unlock the phone's capabilities. A lot of us have had to deal with the phone for a year to get to this point. |

Re: new XV6800
I think for now I'm going to hold off on the flashing. The majority of what I've seen seems to indicate that once you go MR1, flashing a custom rom throws your GPS out of whack. And at this point, I don't need ICS or anything else.
I did the MR1 GPS hack-cab thing and it works for google pretty good, but I tried another program I had..B-Line or something, and it had the coordinates all over the place. It showed the GPS locks, but not the actual location. But so long as google works, I think I'm fine...for now... |
