Re: aGPS fix for Verizon phones: MR1 update or custom

Verizon replaced my 6800 with a 6800, now I'm having problems with GPS.

I had the stock MR1 on my old 6800, but the touch screen stopped working. Verizon replaced it in store with a new 6800 last night. However, I can't get a GPS fixed.

First, I upgraded the phone to MR1, then I found the Dresllisdee ROM (http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=55711) which I'm very happy with. I tried the QPST method of unlocking the GPS for aGPS fixes, but Google Maps just sat there for minutes on "Initialzing GPS". I installed the Vahalla Legends cab, and now it initializes in about 2 seconds, but it never finds any sats or a fix.

Can someone tell me where I went wrong and how to remedy this?

Thank!

Re: aGPS fix for Verizon phones: MR1 update or custom

You need to downgrade all the way to the original shipping ROM and RADIO. Then do the process over again. Also, dont use QPST until you do so cause you will damage your ability to make phone calls permanently. I already had to have Verizon send me a replacement for my replacement since I didnt downgrade first.

The GPS cab is for MR1 Roms only. You have to follow the XDA wiki for qpst instructions on custom roms. You need to downgrade before you go custom after MR1 update. I would recommend to downgrade to pregps verizon rom then go custom.
PS. Never install the MR1 update unless you are going to keep the Verizon stock rom.

Re: aGPS fix for Verizon phones: MR1 update or custom

Can anyone confirm AGPS still working on vzw? I stopped being able to access agps on my TP today and have tried all the obvious and have hard reset. I fear they may have changed the server ip for agps can someone else confirm it to be working or not. I have had working agps with the eact same settings since skywing first published the IP months ago with no trouble.

Is your data still working dellisdee? Mine was having problems connecting. I don't use aGPS though, because it seems to sometimes get messed up. That sounds like something Verizon would do...

Re: aGPS fix for Verizon phones: MR1 update or custom

Not that it matters, but I tried both fixes...the 'fix' cab and then finally rolling back from MR1 and doing a custom ROM. My experience is as follows:

The fix doesn't need QPST at all. It works for Google maps just fine, but if you have a program that wants direct access to the GPS (like BeeLine), it sees the locks, the NEMA data or something is all wacked.

The roll-back/custom rom/qpst route was very easy and appears, to me, to have several advantages:

* All GPS applications work great
* The GPS seemed to track quicker. the fix method seemed to be a second or 3 behind my position, but a custom rom is right there
* Finally...hey...it's a custom rom...what's not to love? DCD 4.1.2 is what I'm using.

Not to hijack the thread, but hows the text messaging app in that DCD Rom Jacksplat?

Also, I have had alot of problem with aGPS... I have thought about rolling back and trying again, but havent found any clear instructions on how to do that. Do you have a link to how to get setup the way you did?

I followed the directions I found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=472805

The instructions are pretty easy to follow. I had one hickup getting the first rom on there after the radio. I had to do it from an SD card...but it's been working like a champ.
