Splash Screens / Animated Gif

Instead of 3 splash screens, and a very quick animated gif... is there any way to make the animated gif on boot longer?

Hmmmm..... weird, because I ran the Sprint radio (3.35) which 'should" have upgraded it. (Ran it a few times, actually). I may wait until later today when my SD cards arrive. Then I'll try to install the 3.42 via the SD installation.

OK, this is weird. I re-ran the sprint Radio update, it didn't try to run the customzations when it booted back, and now it all words.

WTF - I swear I tried that about 5 times this morning, but only worked after reading an email here about it. Man, the Gremlins are fooling with me hard core lately.

1) Keep it away from bright light,
2) Don't get any water on it, and
3) Never, never ever feed it after midnight.

Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!

Has anybody used this guide for US Cellular? It seems very easy to follow, but I know some carriers are different and want to get as much info as I can before I jump in to this. I know the USCC phones have the oldest firmware, and am curious what steps are different, if any.

Thanks for this guide!

Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!

if the uscc is under the carriers in the kitchen than yes...
and it so seems that it is. so follow these steps here and read through your stuff before you jump in. and make sure that you have a copy of an official rom on hand so if something happens as in the screen dies than you can have a legit rom on it when it goes for servicing, its just an example not sayin that if you flash a custom rom than your screen die, just thought id clear that up so we dont get a hundred and one questions bout if they flash a custom rom it will kill their screen.

I don't know if anyone has a good original USCC ROM. I think DCD might, but it is also with an older radio that might not work. USCC has not released any updates for this phone, and it seems like they have no plans to in the future.

I know that USCC is listed, the question I have is if anybody who upgraded their phone used this tutorial, and if so, are there any differences specific to USCC. I have read Maverick351's guide as well, but it was from April, and this is newer.

Is there a USCC customer who used this guide? I realy want to dive in and try this, I was just hoping for a little more insight before I do. If any USCC customers can help me through chat with this sometime this week, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

You can do it one of several ways. You can use the sprint ROM to update your phone. If you are a Sprint customer this may very well be the best way. (This has not been tested by me with VZW but is said to work) If you have another carrier, you can install the latest Sprint ROM to your phone as well. When the phone reboots to the screen that says "tap here to setup", you need to put the phone back in bootloader. DO NOT PROCEED PAST THIS SCREEN so that customizations do not run. If you proceed and allow the Sprint customizations to run, you will have to search the forum to find the method to reverse the Sprint settings on your device. The reason you as a VZW customer would run the Sprint ROM is that Sprint has released a ROM that has a GPS enabled radio in it. VZW has not done so at this point. So basically you are doing it only to get the radio. That is not your only option to obtain and install a GPS enabled Radio. The following methods are how I did mine. You can download the latest Radio (3.42.30) and place the file (radio) on an SD card, rename that file to TITAIMG.nbh. Place the SD card into the device and put the phone into bootloader mode (Power, camera, reset) and follow the prompts on the screen to update the radio. You can also look for the 3.35 radio on the FTP that is packaged in an installer. All you have to do is plug your phone to your PC and double click the icon, then follow the prompts. I prefer to flash with a SD card. Much easier and you don't have to worry about computer issues. By the way don't worry about the phone failing to boot past the splash screen after you install the radio, because it won't. The radio you just put on is not compatible with the stock ROM.
Once you have unlocked and installed a radio you are ready to load your custom ROM. So at this point you can use one of the Custom ROM's that are posted here at ppcgeeks.com, such as no2chems or DCD's , or you can venture into the world of building your own.

Here's my next issue....
I'm runing AOK on 3.35 (exe installed on my PC). However when trying to run the 3.42.40 or 3.42.50 radio from my SD card, as soon as I go to enter bootloader mode, I see some sort of instructions flash REALLY fast, and then the normal bootloader screen pops up. What gives?

Hmmmmm.... 2GB Kingston cheapo.
I would think that it's in FAT32 format but the properties won't show, and strangely enough when I try to format with Resco File Explorer it says the card is locked. I may have to wait until I'm home and can use my all-in-one card reader to screw with it.

Though, it seems the phone sees the card & file, I've not seen those instructions pop-up before. (Not that I can read them now since pop-up is soooo fast, all I can see is "loading...." and then boom... bootloader screen). Erg.
