the new owner would only have to call and have the ESN added to his account, then do OTA to program it to his number. no need to change anything.

Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!

Just so the information is somewhere. I had upgraded to the 3.42.50 radio ROM on my Sprint Mogul and ended up having some trouble...

"error code 1012: could not prepare vision services"

Here's what I ended up having to do to fix it. I didn't even have to call Sprint customer service!
  1. Run the package for Sprint ROM 3.56.651.0 from HTC/Sprint, which includes flashing back to a Sprint Mogul "released" 3.35.04 radio ROM (included in the installer package)
  2. Allow Sprint's customization to run through, resetting your phone when it's done.
  3. Connect to web [a quick tap of the IE key], allow the phone to complete provisioning [success!]
  4. Download the radio ROM of your choice [xda Titan radio ROMs]- mine was 3.42.50
  5. Flash your radio ROM using the SD card method see GaMedic's 5th post in the linked thread.
  6. Reboot the phone w/a stylus reset.
  7. Connect to the web upon reboot. Success again! Double check your radio ROM by going to Start>Settings>System>Device Information: Radio version
  8. Re-flash to the ROM of your choice [I was using Titan_WM6.1_20924 from ppckitchen.org but went back to Titan_WM6.1_20755 because I found 20924 was running slowly and encountered a few bugs with the ROM options I had selected.]
  9. Check your data again just to be safe [read=anal retentive], should work now.

Tried to unlock and got stuck in bootloader, followed instructions and no longer stuck. Because i got stuck does that mean phone is not unlocked or do I have to repeat then if I did manage to unlock it I have downloaded DCD's latest rom do I just click on it and install? Thank you

relaunch bootloader and if the tri colored screen says the un-locker you used then your device is unlocked and you are ready to go

like meanfishy said, put your phone back into bootloader to check to make sure you have unlocked you device.
You are lookin for Olipro 2.40 or No2chem 2.47 - if you see either of those, then you can flash your custom ROM

I believe it is asking if you have unlocked your phone... Basically a prompt of "Do not pass this point unless you are sure you have an unlocked phone"... I am not sure though..

Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!

I'm a noob to flashing. I ran olipro and got to the tricolor screen, then disconnected per prompt on the desktop. I then inserted an sd card w/ the 3.42.40 gps radio renamed to titaimg.nbh. No response so I repeated the bootloader process. I now have a grey screen with "Loading..." I have yet to reconnect my xv6800 to the PC. Am I on the right track or do I need to do something else.

Also, I would like to flash to a pre-made ROM before diving into cooking my own in the kitchen, but I'm not quite clear on how to do this - is there a good step-by-step somewhere for flashing to pre-made ROMs once you've unlocked and flashed to a GPS radio, and is there a recommended ROM for the xv6800 vs. the Mogul?

The purpose of flashing to a higher number on the OLIPRO is to use the SD method to flash, instead of the USB method. I think your prob, is that you have NOT flashed to the HIGHER number on the OLI yet. You must first flash using USB to the higher number on the OLIPRo, then you may use the SD method to flash from thence forward! Hope this helps!!

Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!

Okay, so I worked thru the initial issue. It appears I've flashed the 3.42.40 radio and nueROM-M 201 (keeping it basic, I know). But, as one might guess, I've run into another snag - one I haven't seen repeated yet in this thread or elsewhere: After my call w/ vzw tech supp, I have ingoing/outgoing calls but no internet connection. ](*,)

Per GaMedic's tutorial, I gave them the whole hard-reset-no-authorization-now-please-ineedanewAkey business, but this guy wanted to try a 1/2 dz. other tricks 1st, which eventually allowed me to make/recieve calls. I kept him on the line while I tested PIE & got the username/password is wrong error msg. We checked my data network connection (using "verizon" and "myphonenumber@vzw3g.com" as usernames and vzw as pw) w/ no success. We also (prior to the preceding steps) changed some values in EPST, which I am attempting to recall now. I have soft-reset throughout this process and am wondering if I need to re-flash the ROM again. At this point vzw's tech supp appears to be out of ideas...can anyone help me out (or point me in the right direction to help myself)?? Thanks!

Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!

Thanks for your reply, quadjacks. I guess I wasn't clear on the exact order of steps between unlocking the phone w/ olipro and flashing the radio ROM via sd card. From where I was in my first post, I soft-reset (by accident) and got back to my starting point. I then started olipro again and went thru w/ no prob. I think I put the sd card in b4 olipro was finished unlocking...

the preceding new issue, enumerated above, still stands, tho'...

In my experience, you must keep calling to get a more knowledgable tech. Sounds stupid however, i always had that issue. One thing i would suggest is to have them strip the device from there servers and re-add it. that seems to be the fix everytime for me, but it sometimes takes me several calls to achieve this result. Hope this helps!!!

I have seen this issue before and I am trying to recall the solution for VZW. I know with Alltel you can dial *228 option 3 to fix this issue. You can try it on VZW but I don't think they have option 3. Won't hurt to try. I will post back if I recall the solution. In the meantime a search may net some answers for you. Also you can go to ppckitchen.org and check the support ticket to see if someone else had this problem and found a solution.

Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!

Nexvision gave me this answer motheus:

<NexVision> go into mip settings delete both keys install vzw carrier cab reboot force to 1x and try to surf web
<NexVision> at this point he may want to do that shut down phone by going to flight mode so it disco's from network
<NexVision> call tech tell them he needs dmu reset
<NexVision> take out of flight mode try to connect while in 1x
<NexVision> should connect and download dmu keys
<NexVision> switch to hybrid and your good to go
<NexVision> dmu keys arent being rewrittin on vzw's switch for some reason

Thanks, GaMedic and NexVis, for the thorough reply - turned out my tech-sup call the following morning resolved the issue (w/o issuing yet another Akey - interesting). I appreciate the work u guys have put in to making these machines more useful for power-users.

Applied gc14's GPS hackatweaks w/ pleasing results, too

Next step 4 me: ROM gastronomy 101...

There is a program that restores the phone back and gets you out of the bootloader loop

You seem to have found it good deal

Okay....gotta an issue. BuildOS updated, let it go al the way through and followed the propts, working with a Verizon XV6800, selected the Triton updates and all that. I am now at the point that my phone has been unlocked and is at the Rainbowed screen waiting for something to happen. Now, when I go to run BuildOS from the start menu, all I get is "BuildOS encountered a problem and needs to close..." Thats it...Now what? I have a brand new phone that I can do nothing with. Help please!

I've noticed many of the apps on BuildOS are not up to date, or an expired trial. How can I update these apps with the newest ones? I have some cab files I'd like to add.

If there is a difference between the cab files and OEM (which I'm assuming there is), where can I get the OEM, and add it to the BuildOS/Kitchen folder (or in the correct place)?

OEM are for cooking in a kitchen, cabs are for installing after your ROM update
*edit* here is rstoyguy's OEM thread... filled with lots of OEMs and cabs scattered throughout :D

You need 2.0SP1 or later. 2.0 will not work. (Not to mention the CF versions are for PPCs, not PCs)

I suspect your install is screwed up. Reinstall. It's possible updater caused your failure to run, so verify it works before you run updater, then run updater to get any updates.

Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!

Hey Guys,
Yet another new guy:???:
First this forum is fantastic and you mentors and tutors are great.
But... Can someone tell me where I can find 'stock' OEM's for a 6800/Mogul?
BuildOS seems to have lots of stuff for Touch and Diamond in the kitchens
that are supposed to be for the mogul, but stock programs and apps are lacking.
I like to find Voice Speed Dial, the stock dialer from the mogul(that can accept ## codes to program) and a couple of others. Maybe a stock Mogul Rom/OEM's that one can add and subtract from?
The four kitchens in BuildOS for the mogul all seem to be the same...
Any one know where else I should look?
Thanks,
Spydr
