ok, well now on your phone you've got SPL and OS and Radio, that's (3) parts not just (1) ;-) 1) SPL - you flash this only once to 'unlock' your phone. once your unlocked, its done. 2) OS - this is the custom ROM part, and the part you already understand. 3) Radio - GPS vs Non-GPS (there's more to radios, but lets keep it simple...) On the HTC Titan and HTC Touch devices there are both GPS and non-GPS Radios, OS's, and SPL's In order for your phone to boot and operate correctly they must all match (so they must all must be GPS or non-GPS) When they do not match, you will experience the symptoms you posted. |

however I see that it has a SPL also, the radio is a higher number and maybe more recently but is using that exe going to mess up the phone since I am using the mattsm ROM, or lock it back? Or is there really no benefit and I should just stick with what I already have? And one last question, for now anyway. So i see like you said there are 3 parts so every time i upload another radio or rom it basicly wipes the old one out correct? If i tried to ruu and install btbone's ROM it would just remove mattsm and Be a fresh install basicly... Also, would i have to call VZW again to get phone autenticated agian or did I only have to do that this time b/c i flashed the SPL? I had did a hard reset a few months back and Techie was being somewhat quizical as to why I had done another "hard reset" if you will. Thanks again for you help guys |
Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!
ive done 10 hard reste in a day. They dont care. Or you can swap the esn with another verizon phone online or by *228 option 3. Then back to the titan and it should work.

Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!
Just wanted to bump this for any noobs who can't find it, everything you need to know is in this thread, all 48 pages of it, otherwise you can fallow my instructions below which will work for any 6800 phone. very simple when you do it correctly, and I still say you should make your own rom, that way you know you have the right provider selected.
Still think the thread should be a sticky!!!!! I feel like everyone is having the same problem and here is everything you need to know, cook a rom it's worth it! get 6.5 -Modifying Via USB Cable- Best USB cable option is to start with olipro 1.2 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332381 You just connect your phone to the computer via activ sync and then go to the titanunlocker.exe and run it, the phone should restart once installed. Then boot the phone to the windows touch screen setup message and then install the new Titan Radio ROM 3.42.50 here http://www.geek-pages.com/rom/Titan%...%203.42.50.rar with active sync and RUU through the phones windows touch screen setup window, your computer/activesync will see your phone when it is at the touch screen setup prompt window. Titan Radio ROM 3.42.50 is awsome, I get 2 bars in my house when I couldn't even get a signal with sprints crappy radio. You use RUU to install the titan radio through active sync which you get here ftp://up.ppcgeeks.com/Titan/RUU/RUU.rar you extract the .nbh titan radio file out of the zipped folder it is in and then put it in the RUU folder where ever you extracted/installed it to. Then you run the romupdateutility.exe located in the RUU folder and it will install the radio to the phone, you have to have activesync connected to the phone at the same time as you are running RUU installer. Reboot the phone and when it get's to the windows message telling you to touch the screen to set up the phone run active sync again to install olipro 2.4 get here ftp://up.ppcgeeks.com/Titan/Users/Im...rd-SPL-MFG.exe and boot back to the windows touch screen once again(if you can't boot out of olipro2.4 use this cmd line here ftp://up.ppcgeeks.com/Titan/Users/Im...tan_exitbl.rar and make sure Wcesmgr.exe Wcescomm.exe Rapimgr.exe are all disabled in task manager on your computer before you do) Then run active sync when the phone is at the windows touch screen message again and cook up a rom yourself, I personally am now a big fan of wm6.5 21501 which has been great so far, might upgrade to 21815. To cook get build OS http://ppckitchen.org/Downloads/BuildOS.msi and get cooking! pretty self explanitory, make sure you update build os completely and also select titan in update selection area. -Modifying Via SD Card- -A side note, You have to use olipro 1.2 to install the new titan radio if you are using a usb cable, otherwise if you have a sd card you can just install olipro 2.4 ftp://up.ppcgeeks.com/Titan/Users/Im...rd-SPL-MFG.exe and then install the titan radio with a >2gb sd card with the titan radio on it in the bootloader without installing olipro 1.2, your choice. It's not worth buying a sd card for if you ask me!! Just use the USB way I just described above and buy an 8gb sd card off ebay to put all your stuff on. |
Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!
well sorry to say but im stuck at TITA100 SPL-01.20 Olipro [i totally downloaded wrong]

1) If I get an XV6800 that never enabled the GPS while on Verizon, I won't be able to enable the GPS without a genuine account directly on Verizon. 2) If I get an XV6800 that never enabled the GPS while on Verizon, a possible workaround would be to upgrade to a GPS enabled rom/radio, and then have a friend with a Verizon account do the "Log into the vzw site, change phone, put in my ESN, let it go, after that's done, log out, log back in, change ESN, put back in their ESN, and you'll be fixed." thing. If so, does this solution require their phone to also be an XV6800, or another GPS enabled phone, or just one with a data plan? 3) If I get an XV6800 that HAS previously enabled the GPS with Verizon, I can flash any different GPS enabled rom/radio I want in the future and GPS will continue to work fine without any need for official Verizon support. Can anyone offer opinions on some or all of this sounding correct? Thanks! |
Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!
Having a VZW account does not matter. the whole deal about calling VZW was because the new radio install caused your phone not to be seen on the VZW network. So if you are just looking for GPS then being seen on VZW network does not matter. If you are going to use VZW then just call them for a new A Key. I cannot tell you how well the other answers given work as they are not tested by me.
|
Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!
Thanks, GaMedic. So to help clarify my noobish understanding, does the issue of needing a new Akey only relate to those who initially enable GPS while currently on an active plan with Verizon, and therefore flashing an inactive phone to enable GPS before putting the phone on Verizon does not require a new Akey? Or perhaps does needing a new Akey only apply to those wanting to use VZ Navigator, Telenav, or some other aGPS app that's assisted by cell towers?
|
Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!
I doubt you will need a new akey. If you do then just swap the flashed phone for a non used verizon phone online. I never have to call for a key anymore after installing radio or downgrading to remove gps block. I have to downgrade every new replacement phone I get and I never have a problem because I swap phones either online or *228 option 3

Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!
My computer won't let me install ".net framework Version 2.0." is 3.0 acceptable to use instead, or is there something else i can do?

Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!
i'm trying to unlock my mogul to install one of lastest builds of Windows Mobile 6.5
following the directions The first thing you need to do is to setup. You will need to do or have the following items before you flash your device. Some are common sense things but I will list them anyway. 1. A computer running Windows XP or Windows Vista. I run XP so I don’t know how to instruct those of you running Vista, but if someone would post the steps in the same format I am using I will be glad to add it to the tutorial and give you the proper credit. Make sure that your computer has an open USB port. I wouldn’t try flashing with your USB cable attached to a USB hub. No technical reason that I can give you, I just wouldn’t do it personally. 2. You also need to download and install the .net framework Version 2.0. 3. Download and install Active sync version 4.5 or higher. It can be downloaded here as a free download. Make sure you back up your calendar and contacts using Active Sync or another back up program such as PIM backup. If you are running Vista you will not download Active Sync. (Again I am not familiar with Vista) 4. A mini USB cable. One end should fit in the USB port on your PC and one end in the mini USB on your PPC. You may also choose to use a SD card to flash your ROM's. More information will be given on that method later. My computer downloads .net framework Version 2.0. but will not install it; i've tried copying it to my phone and installing it there but it says it's not a valid windows mobile application. any thoughts on what i can do?? |
Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!
ignore it unless it is a problem later. I don't understand why it is needed.

Great info...I may actually try to unlock and try some of these nice Roms....If all else fails I at least have some Moto Q`s to fall back on...heh

Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!
I have not tried installing a ROM on my sprint mogul and realize that I have to unlock it first. How do I know if my mogul has a gps enabled(I never used it on my mogul). I have the last official Sprint rom installed on my mogul btw.

Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!
If your current radio is version 3.xxxx then you have a gps enabled radio. Check this under device info

Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!
HI
I tried the step by step but after i install the radio 3.35 my mogul cannot enter its stopping in the spalsh screen and keep that way what should i do ? thanks |
Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!

I noticed in your title you have a touch pro? I hope you did not flash this radio to that phone. Edit: I see you said mogul. If you are working with a titan phone, then stuck on second splash can be a couple things: 1 Bad or non bootable rom 2 corrupt radio, or it did not flash correctly (if it did not flash for some reason then a gps rom with a non gps radio, you get this exact situation) make sure your radio did flash by reading the red numbers r when it first boots. If it has the correct radio, then flash another rom. If it does not work, then reflash the radio. |
Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!
i have just bought (2) USCC ppc 6800 cell phones off ebay that have:
Rom Version 2.17.557.0 Rom Date 11/20/07 Radio Version 1.64.00 and the bootloader screen shows: TITA100 SPL-1.07.0000 CPLD-9 basically i think the phones are STOCK USCC updates. what i want to do is switch them to SPRINT with latest STOCK updates but that does have the GPS working. anyhow if i do get it switched to SPRINT will be "EXACTLY" like the sprint ppc 6800 with all updates? i mean if i sell these phone after i change them from USCC to SPRINT will they work perfectly for those people i sell them too with the SPRINT network? i dont have any cell service....all i have is wifi in the house...but i think i might be able to get a couple dollars more if i can sell these with GPS working right? |
Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!
I'm sorry, I'm sure it's here somewhere but was this tutorial updated with the instructions on what to do if you're running vista? I wasn't able to install .NET framework
|
Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!
there shouldn't be any changes for vista other than using vista equivalent of activesync, WMDC. What steps are you having issues with?
|
Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!
Updater not working?
I d/l the setup, ran the updater...and the updater was updated. Then I updated again, and it just sits there...nothing after 2 hours. Is the server just down?? Edit: It started D/L'ing...finally. I think I ran the uploader 10 times until it finally started working. And oh ... it is S L O W!! Can't wait to start cooking my own!! |
Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!
Hi, I'm able to cook and flash my sprint htc mogul however I would like to know what options anyone would recommend for the following scenarios. I already cooked and burned twice and although I solved a problem here and there others continue to pop up.
1. First, i'm choosing WM 6.5 but it's kinda slow on my phone. I picked the fastest compression suggested on the forums. Would it make a difference if I picked no compression? How about if I picked WM 6.1?? Here are my phone's specs: ROM VERSION: 3.08.666.1 RADIO version: 3.42.02 CPU: QUALCOM(R)7500 Speed: 400 MHz RAM Size: 64 MB Flash size: 256MB Transcend Micro SD Card: 8 GB --->can I try over clocking my phone? I noticed the warning on the cooking software that said the over clocking only works on Apache so I didnt try it on my phone. 2. Which app will give me a minimized TODAY on my phone, exactly or similar to the default sprint? I used to have about 5-6 items. In particular, I really really really need to see my up and coming meetings on my calendar, e-mail notification and from what e-mail account. I dont need any fancy GUI. 3. I don't touch the screen much at all. I know a lot of you guys are going to kill me for this but I like to keep things simple. I use the keys to open the "Start Menu" on the phone then I scroll down to the application that I want. There's a few applications that I use very often and they are always on the "Start Menu", on WM 6.5 there is no start menu! I click on the windows key that's supposed to send me to the start menu but instead it sends me to the list of applications -- android style! I don't need to see an icon to know what app I want -- is there a setting or app that can give me a start menu WM 6.1 style? That way I dont have to scroll up and down my phone?? 3. I know I dont use the touch screen much for anything else except for... TYPING!!! I got used to the software keyboard on 6.1 and worked like a charm! I NEVER used the hardware QWERTY keyboard in WM 6.1 because the keyboard was human friendly and worked excellent with my fingers which I used most of the time and no problems with the stylus. The keyboard in WM 6.5 is much too small!! I cant even type with the thing even with the stylus!!!! I already tried two different keyboards but before I cook and burn again I would like some input from seasoned veterans! 4. Last but not least, is it possible to save a text file that spits out a human friendly log of the choices that you picked so that if you want to cook again you know what choices you picked? |
Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!
I forgot to mention this important fact.
The main reason I am flashing my phone is because I want the following functionalities: 1. I want to share my data connection with my laptop running ubuntu. 2. I want to be able to watch videos, TCPMP works like a charm! 3. I want to use a browser other than the default IE. 4. I want to play around with the GPS functionality of my phone. The GUI looks awesome in 6.5, you guys did a great job, but my start menu, today, and my keyboard need fixing big time! |
Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!
I want to try some OEM ROMs but I don't have this folder, C:\Program Files\PPCkitchen.org\BuildOS\USER_OEM.
When I'm running BuildOS, where are they listed? If I create the USER_OEM folder and place the OEM ROMs in it, I can't find them when using BuildOS. |
Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!
Quote:
C:\Program Files\PPCkitchen.org\PPCk-BuildOS\USER_OEM notice the newest buildos directory is PPCK-BuildOS, NOT just BuildOS. that directory is the older buildos. You should have installed the newer .msi If you did install then newer, then look for that directory, when you uninstalled the older to install the newer, it leaves behind the old directory. So you may have made the mistake of creating and placing the oem's in the wrong place. If you have not installed the newer .msi then you need to uninstall the old buildos and install the newer one. Also ANY oem's that do NOT contain an option.xml will not show up for selection, they will be cooked in automatically. |

Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!
I am assuming that you get the gray screen that says loading on top?
Sometimes it gets stuck at that point, has happen to me, while it is in that state, just force bootloader again, power + camera+ reset hole. It will force back into bootloader and try to load again. It should go from loading on that screen to checking and then ask for hitting the power button. Make sure the .nbh on sd card is on root of card and the only .nbh file on card. Also make sure the sd card has a format of FAT32. Good luck, you should be able to get out of this pretty easy. |
Re: Step by Step tutorial for unlocking your device and cooking your own ROM!!!
I try that but still said loading... I'm using a microsd 2gb, not a problem????
