Question Upgrading to 6.1 -- What can I preserve (contacts, applications, settings, etc)?

Hey guys,

For some reason I just can't seem to find a clear answer to this, and of course I don't want to upgrade without a clear idea of whether I can expect to preserve my huge pool of data currently on my phone.

I have Sprite Backup and I hear it can migrate between ROM versions. However others have said it doesn't work well when upgrading to 6.1...

SO, my question is this:
  • What data can be preserved without fail? Contacts, calendar, settings, programs...?
  • What is the easiest, fail-safe way to ensure this data is preserved and restorable upon upgrade completion? I also have PIM Backup, but if I can/should use Sprite, what settings do I use?
Thank you very much for a few seconds of your time. This will help me immensely.

-Steve

Re: Upgrading to 6.1 -- What can I preserve (contacts, applications, settings, etc)?

The only thing ive tried is Contacts and Email settings, i think the only problem would be somewhere in system settings if an issue were to occur

So basically there's no getting around having to reinstall every program, reconfigure every option, etc?

If not there is no way I am bothering with this upgrade. Currently I am running the 3.35 stock ROM.

If you use PIMBackup http://www.dotfred.net/PIM/PPCPimBackupV2.8_wm2005.zip you should be able to keep contacts, emails, sms, call log etc. You will need to reinstall all apps. Using an Autoinstall program to automatically install your cab files from a microsd card is not too hard to do. Read how to here.... http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...toinstall+cabs

Hope this helps you decide to take the plunge. Once you have upgraded and installed all apps, make a complete backup of your device with SPB backup or another commercial program. Then you can test any of the newer roms, but be able to reflash to the older working rom if need be without reinstalling all the apps again. Helps when testing cutting edge roms that are still a little flakey.
