How exactly does one go about making a custom rom without the use of a kitchen such as DCD's or PPCGeeks ? I really want to try JD's rom, but I'd like to insert OEM packages into it. Also, how does one access or modify the XIP ? I doubt I'd do anything but break my device, but I'd like to play around with it nevertheless.

I guess the easier thing to do would be to do as the previous poster mentioned - rip the base set from the rom and use it in the kitchen. Anyone know how to do that, or can point me in the right direction ?

Use this.....Dan htc.....cabbed it up.....then just extract any OEMS from the kitchens and place them on your storage card and Nuepackage Installer will find them.....

been using the rom since it was out and just wanted to let jd and anyone reading this know that this is really good work. hopefully somebody will buy some of my **** sometime soon on half.com so i can support the work!

one thing ive run into: with youtube when i tried to go on there and watch a video it never works and i get the error "no combination of intermediate fildters could be found to make the connection".

any fix?

Anyone else have an issue with picture caller ID being extremely small on incoming calls?

I just flashed jd2.1-8.08.08 and it looks very good, except that all my typing with the keyboard is in uppercase. If I hit the caps lock then I type in lower case.
I just flashed this rom, nothing else installed yet.

Maybe just try a hard reset since you haven't installed anything yet?

That did it. I had done a few soft resets, but had not tried a hard reset. I should have thought of that.
