Getting furious with Vista and tethering!
Anyone else having issues with Vista dropping the tether connection after awhile? Its getting really frustrating. I can hold a stable connection for HOURS with bluetooth but USB drops in a matter of minutes... it still shows it being connected but it won't connect to any sites... in order to get it working again, I have to disconnect and reconnect.
Is there any fix for this? I'm seriously getting sick of this... it works for hours and hours and hours under Linux too via a USB tether... just not in Vista! EDIT: Apparently I posted this in the wrong forum, mods please move this to the main thread.

Virtual machine at work? **** I wish I could do that **** here... I just bring my laptop in LOL.
It actually seems to be resolved if I use no2chem's latest pre 2.2 ROM and select the USB-Serial option instead of RNDIS. I've been tethered for about 45 minutes now without issue. Last edited by EtherealRemnant; 07-15-2008 at 05:07 PM. |

I don't know if its just my laptop or what but I've had four separate Vista installs and they all suffered from this.

Maybe its a laptop thing. A power saving feature or something? Happens to me too, but I've been using PDANet with great success so I never pursued it.

It could easily be a power management thing... I've noticed sometimes it disconnects my Saitek gamepad when I'm playing games on ZSNES too... I'm going to disable Toshiba's power management tweaks and see if that fixes it, thanks for the tip!

Re: Getting furious with Vista and tethering!
check your connection. My vista laptop does this as well but only when i kinda wiggle the connection to my phone when its pluged in. usually after xfering apps i like to run on the phone with it still plugged into the computer it becomes quite annoying.
