Re: Getting furious with Vista and tethering!
I've got a Toshiba Satellite X205-S9359...
But my problem is about to be solved. Got a kickass Sprint rep today who gave me a data card for 39.99 (Ovation U727), waived my activation, shipping (overnight), gave me an instant rebate (got the card for 99 - it was like 108 with tax), and no contract on it. He hooked me up phat so I'll be set! 102.98 for my SE 450 - 20% Comcast discount + TEP + my new air card! He solved a lot of problems for me - this particular card works with Leopard and Linux both on top of Vista and XP! The 4GB microSD capability is quite nice too! I've also heard that the Ovation is the *best* data card that you can buy so I'm stoked to get it! Should be here Thursday!

Re: Getting furious with Vista and tethering!
Thanks Half Decaf,
I just got the card today. I must say, I'm EXTREMELY impressed with it! Here in Arvada, the tower only has a single T1 going to it, however, this is still a really impressive result: That ping is much lower than anything I've ever gotten on my Mogul. Signal -77dBm. And those are the fastest speeds I've ever gotten from home too. MrMakeEmAkRight, I tried PDAnet and it seemed like my speeds were a lot slower... I also didn't like not being able to browse the web on my phone while tethering. Oh well, problem solved. And now I don't have to force my phone to EVDO only when I'm at work and miss 15000 texts and calls. LOL Now lets see if I can get it working with Linux and OS X lol. |

Re: Getting furious with Vista and tethering!
Huh, I just checked on that ovation u727. I didn't realize it is a USB device -- I thought it was a PC card device, I don't know why I thought that.
I'm sure you studied the PC World review of it, seems like they liked it alot. What is the price for a data plan at Sprint? (I'm on Verizon - data plans are royal ripoff here) |

It also doesn't put out much heat - at least not compared to my Mogul. My Mogul gets hotter just being on the charger or me talking on it or browsing... tethering, it gets even hotter. The speeds blow my Mogul away in every way - lowest ping I've ever seen on an EVDO device actually - 101! Datacards on Sprint are normally 59.99 but retention has a 49 dollar plan that you might be able to get on, depending on the rep (as always). I got a really kickass rep who understood my frustration with have SE and not being able to add PAM so he gave me the card for 39.99 a month. I can't wait to go in to work where I was getting 2+Mbps on my Mogul and see what I get with this thing! It only took me about 5 minutes to configure gnome-ppp to dial up to Sprint using the airprime driver on Ubuntu 8.04, just took a simple insert of the CDROM and a simple install for Windows and Leopard... All in all, I'm beyond impressed. Oh and the GPS locks faster than my Mogul. |

Re: Getting furious with Vista and tethering!
Wow, I have the same problem as well and I have the TX2500. I don't know about the bluetooth because I don't really know how to work it. Everything I click "bluetooth PAN" and connect it says, "Device setup finished. On the PC, coonect Bluetooth PAN". how do I do this?

Re: Getting furious with Vista and tethering!
Find the bluetooth settings on your laptop - usually in the system tray - and make a new connection... it should find your pocketpc - then it will walk you through how to pair it.
I *knew* I was not the only one with this issue! |
