You are right about the soft reset vs the hard reset but the hard reset is holding the red and green button and then pushing the bottom reset button. |

If you're running Google Maps with your new ROM, you can also use the GPS feature to lock onto sattellites.

Re: GPS on alltel 6800 - easy way
When that rom was first released I was so excited! Finally got GPS! I added the .dll files that would turn on GPS and was amazed to see it work... The problem was it would take up to 10 minutes to get a lock. When I want GPS, I want it now. I know I could go out and spend $200 and have my own unit, but aren't we trying to consolidate everything down to one? That's why I wanted the 6800. I could have a phone and GPS all in one.
Once I got the balls, I decided to flash a custom rom... What I noticed with the GPS from that point on, was that I was locking in about 30 sec. to a minute! The scary part is unlocking boot loader. Once you accomplish that you never have to mess with it again and from there on flash away. Get board with WM and want an iphone? It's yours! Get board with that and want to make your 6800 a touch, done... Another thing, most of the Roms out there have GPS enabled, come with WM6.1 and have Threaded SMS! Cody SMS Threader is OK... It served it's purpose, but I do enjoy the WM SMS threader! Really though if you have reservations about flashing a custom rom head over to http://ppckitchen.org and check out the faq's. Flashing Olipro isn't all that difficult, follow the instructions and you'll have everything you ever wanted on your phone, and best of all it's set up the way you want to. If you get stuck or have a question, they also have a chat room. Check it out, most everyone there will help you through the process. If you can't find anyone in there check the chat room at ppcgeeks.com and someone there can help. |

Re: GPS on alltel 6800 - easy way
I'm not sure if the Touch has GPS... If it does there are a couple of free progs to use, Google Maps, Live Search, etc... You can add TomTom and/or Garmin though.

Right but does it show Lat/Long coordinates on the map using google? Seeing the coordinates and not just the dot that shows me where I am is what I'm looking for. Thanks |

Re: GPS on alltel 6800 - easy way
I just wanted to report that I just got my HTC 6800 over the last week. After seeing this posting, adding GPS was something that I definitely wanted to do to my phone.
After some checking, I found out that my phone already had the ROM version and radio version installed in the first part of this message. Eagerly, I tried just installing Google maps, but GPS didn't work. Then I installed the patches, soft reset my phone, and all is good!!! If you have a fairly recent phone, it appears that you might have the latest ROM and radio version. If that's the case, then you don't need to go thru the step of flashing the ROM, or at least I didn't. Immediately after the patch installs, it took my phone about 5 minutes to find 5 satellites. Since then, it doesn't have any problem finding satellites very quickly. 5 is the most that I've seen so far, so I think that I'll put my phone in the window and see if I can lock onto more, even though it works great at the moment. CADman_ks PS: let me say two things: 1) I'm totally new to the whole internet/gps/windows mobile/ phone thing. Yeah, I have had cell phones, but this is something totally different. 2) This site is TOTALLY AWESOME! This is my first post, and I hope to find out a TON of information here. The information in this one post has been almost invaluable!!! Now I can sell my hand held GPS. |
