Worse radio reception on the xv6800 vs xv6700

I just recently upgraded to a verizon xv6800 from xv6700 and let me tell you. Big dissappointment. The most important of all is the radio reception is worsen than the xv6700. Comparing the two devices side by side, I have 3 bars with the xv6700 but only 1 bar (cut in and out) with the xv6800. Upgraded radio from 1.30 to 3.35.04 won't help a bit.

Video performance is very annoying. I used to play every video files smoothly with the xv6700 under core player and tcmp. The same files can't be played back without tweaking down the the playback quality to a minimum.

Pro
Light weight, brighter screen, internal anntena, sticky stylus, bluetooth 2.0

Con
Worse radio reception, poor video performance, uncommon audio ear plug
not overclockable for the time being

Re: Worse radio reception on the xv6800 vs xv6700

Bars mean zero on CDMA.

Do this. ##DEBUG#

Compare the signal strength between the two phones side by side. I always found that my Mogul was about 10db better than my 6700.

For example: Mogul was be at -77db and my 6700 would be at -87db+, which is a good bit worse level of signal.

I don't even know why they bother putting bars on CDMA at all... I make calls all the time with zero bars...

Comparing ##debug between xv6800 and xv6700
xv6800
rx power: -87dbm
rx Ec: 24db

xv6700
rx power: -80
rx Ec: 12db

Looks like the xv6700 has better recption in my case.

Re: Worse radio reception on the xv6800 vs xv6700

That's odd. I wonder if there's something different in the xv6800 casing materials as opposed to the PPC-6800 for Sprint. Its not the first time I've heard someone with a Verizon 6800 say their signal is worse. Sprint users who run DEBUG tend find out that the 6800 is a lot better.

My brother has the same Verizon xv6800 with stock radio v1.30. His radio reception is idential to my upgraded version v3.35.04. The metal bevel embedded on the front might of the unit might interfere with the radio reception if it lays close to the internal antenna. In that case, the metal casing acts like a shielding which reduces RF signal quality from sending or receiving to the device.

Yeah that's basically what I was getting at - something metal in the casing somewhere. I don't know anyone who wanted to carry around Verizon's ugly 6800 (two people switched to Sprint for ours and the third got the new Samsung) so I haven't seen one up close to be able to discern if there could be interference or not.

I don't know what Verizon thinking these. Taking something that works and turned it into something worse. Coming from a black xv6700, the blue and the weird buttons look in the front make me feel like going back to the xv6700.

The internal GPS doesn't work well without assisted GPS turns on (need internet access). Those without data service like myself won't find this feature useful cause it won't work reliablity.

Re: Worse radio reception on the xv6800 vs xv6700

My XV6800 gets the same if not better reception than my XV6700 did. I owned my XV6700 from the day it was released, and have owned my XV6800 since the day it was released.

You may have a defective unit, so you should definitely consider a warranty claim.
