Re: Uscc 6800 Gps, Custom Roms, Downgrading Guide
This is my preferred method for flashing the phone for USCC, I think this should actually replace the original posting as it's more accurate and up to date. And so far has never failed after flashing 10+ phones.
The very first thing you should do is download QPST and use it to read the programming off of your phone. To get your MSL/SPC do a google search for BAFMSL, make sure you have .net 3.5 installed on your phone and it will give you your MSL/SPC. I believe this works on all carriers, where GetSPC only works on Sprint and a few other carriers. If you can't get this to work, there is a registry hack that will create a temp file that shows your SPC as well. It's just more complicated. You will need this to read your phone's programming with QPST and save the information to a file. (You will need this later, do not skip this step). Next, I recommend using the SPL2.47 bootloader as it can be done from the phone and doesn't require activesync (to me it's easier, faster, and safer). And also recommended as it supposedly makes the phone faster and more stable. Once this is put on to the phone, then use any radio newer than 3.27.x, I personally use the latest from DCD. Once this is done, then download DCD 3.1.2 rom (this will be replaced later, just need it to run QPST again). I do all of my flashing from the bootloader screen, as it's faster and easier to get to. You need a 2gb or smaller MicroSD card and SPL2.47 will format it for you to the correct format. Once 3.1.2 is on the phone, rerun QPST and write your programming back to the phone (You did save it after reading it, right) Reboot the phone. It will come up and say Cell South (This is fine, dial *22 ![]() Once you are this far, you can then flash any rom you want, DCD, No2Chem, Scrosslers, Etc. If you guys want to use this as the original post, I will go in and put in more details, etc with links. Just don't want to do all this if it's just going to be overlooked. BTC |

Re: Uscc 6800 Gps, Custom Roms, Downgrading Guide
Hey BillThyCat,
Thanks for the updated instructions but I have already bricked one phone and finally found another one to buy at a reasonable price. I did't want to try it on my own any more. Since you have done 10 phones already I have read here in the forums that the rom/everything is backed up using spb backup - Can you make a backup of one of those phones less the EPST info and MIP settings. I can plug those in myself after the restore. Please let me know if you can email it or post it online. Does anyone have a backup of the new GPS working phone. Thanks in advance. |

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=36377 To read from Phone I need to enter Service Programming Code - Which I enter 000000 and it does not take it. Does anyone know what else I can use. |

Do a search for BAFMSL, it will show the SPC/MSC code for pretty much all carriers.

Go back through thread. kinda long now I know. If its after you cook rom look into your "advanced settings" in you phone. should be able to access everything from there.

You said you do your flashing from the bootloader screen..How do I do that? Wait I found this.. Will this work? STEP 5 (Alternate) An alternate method to installing the custom roms after you have the latest radio and boot loader would be to have a micro SD card formatted to the fat32 file system. at this point put the nbh file on the card in its root directory (in no folders) and name the file TITAIMG.nbh. once this is done hold the power button and camera button while using the stylus to softreset the phone, this will bring it into boot loader mode and will update the rom. Not all sd cards seem to be compatible with this method, so if you have issues just use the method above. If you do a search for a program called pocketrar, you can download the roms directly to your phone and try updating them without having to connect to your pc. otherwise, you will need to active sync the file over, and as we know if you have vista that can be a major issue. though for some reason the RUU folder method can still seem to see the phone usually. For this step u can use NueSPL 2.47 or Olipro 2.40 (just one of them, NOT both) DO NOT PROCEED UNTIL YOUR UNLOCKED !!! *** press power+camera+reset and check bootloader version *** From this point the reference on flashing from SD Card is 100% correct, and also my preferred method of flashing. Just remember that the card must be smaller than 2 GB, formatted FAT32, and the image must be named accordingly. Then you load the card, put device into bootloader and press a button to start... oh did i mention that flashing from SD Card is also much faster !!! ![]()

Re: Uscc 6800 Gps, Custom Roms, Downgrading Guide
Thanks for the heads up. I just checked my boot version (SPL-1.07.0000). I will use SPL 2.47 to unlock my phone and do a reset again to check boot version. am asuming it will now be SPL-2.47. After I unlock my phone I will first need to update my radio firmware. I have radio 3.42.40 - inside this folder is a file TITAIMG.nbh. I will replace the one in SPL 2.47 with this new TITAIMG.nbh for radio 3.42.40 and run SPL 2.47 again to update radio. I hope this is correct. can you explain how to do this from bootloader screen or how it is done in basic steps so I know what to expect. OK Continue with what I think.. After I update the radio to 3.42.40 I will need to update the ROM. First to ROM version 3.1.2. This rom is in a .exe format so I will need to connect the phone to computer via usb and run the 3.1.2.exe ROM. I dont think I can use SPL to do it from bootloader screen? correct? If this is correct. Like BillThyCat said once I load 3.1.2 then load back my MSL/SPC setting via qpst. Once this is done I can run the latest ROM which I have to be 3.3.4.exe. Again the ROM is a .exe so I will not be able to do it from a bootloader screen correct?
Thanks alot for your help. any way I can call you or chat with you when I do the upgrade? I just dont want to brick my phone. |

Re: Uscc 6800 Gps, Custom Roms, Downgrading Guide
So I'm having some problems with this.
Everytime I've gone to load the new radio using Hard-SPL when i get to the part where it loads onto the phone the progress bar starts on both the pc and the phone but throws an error code shorty after. So I decided to flash it using an SD card. However when I try to flash from the SD card it gets stuck on the "loading..." screen until I pull the battery. Anybody have any thoughts? |
